Great, more coffee, pizza, and Mexican food. How refreshing. Totally don’t have way too much of all of that in SB already. The boring trifecta of food keeps spreading. It’s like a virus.
Gazebo at Alice Keck?
I know, some of our favorites for sure!
Bettina’s, Corazon, third Window and Dart coffee all together!? I may need to move down to Carp.
I’m with you, Jill. From this point forward, “The Good Cougar” will be its unofficial official name.
Where is the Hot Springs video!
Zaca Lake has some crazy juju running thru it- while beautiful, there is a force to be reckoned with blowing thru the trees. Beautiful stellar jays will steal your lunch crumbs! I need to hear the road has been fixed and is passable- no bus or trash truck has been back there in years
With regards to the Rosewood Miramar, the authors comment about the ritzy, high end shops reminding him of Tom Bradley international terminal at LAX, the planned addition of Chanel & Loro Piano bring me visions of armed “Smash-n-Grab” type burglaries. Easy off, easy on, freeway access as an added bonus.
909 Park Lane is the house where the 2022 homicide occurred. Proceeds from the sale supposedly go to a charity.
Is Good Lion (Cougar) a pick up joint for cougars and cubs? That's news to me :)
We are Sama Sama regulars so if the "The Good Cougar" (as I will only refer to it now, no matter what the name ends up being) ends up with a menu similar to their "Strange Beast", we would be very happy campers: https://www.strangebeastbar.com/eat. Now if only the Empty Bowl replaced the tired China Palace, we could be in pan-Asian heaven!
or...something new and different?
I agree. Very sad that the Empty Bowl restaurant on CVR (where local is now) didn’t succeed. We loved being able to sit at tables and get their great Thai food. Less hectic than the public market.
1187 Coast Village Road, Framed American Flag crafted from a Firehose
That is well used coupling on a fire hose. The hose was most likely from North American Fire Hose in Santa Maria, the nation’s second largest fire hose manufacturer
Skip the bar/lounge .... I would really like to see a Sama Sama or Secret Bao go into the space. We need a good ethnic ( other than Mexican ) restaurant along CVR ! P.S. The "Good Cougar" is brilliant !!!
Locally know as “the Cougar”!
I like the part about offering Sama Sama food. That would be a good addition to Montecito restaurant world.
I have never owned an apartment building, but I have owned a couple rental properties in the past so I have some understanding of a landlord's perspective. I agree that rental ordinances should be clearly written and upgrades should be allowed. But a simple search of "215 Bath St" on Google shows that there's much more to this story than what is revealed in the Noozhawk article you linked. Maybe Knapp is right, the city is trying to send a message: Don't be a d*ck.
Having encountered many of the patrons that often frequent CVR, a cheeky companion name for this new bar could be..."The Good Cougar".
One of my favorite places in SB for lunch with. the children and friends for years & years. If it reopens as a restaurant, I doubt I will eat there- too many memories as a wonderful place with local atmosphere. And with the increase in prices to pay the new lease prices, I and my friends will have lunch at other local places. Good bye to Derf’s
Fry's is a wonderful spot and has some cool history - the rocks from the carved-out cliff on the left now form the Santa Barbara breakwater, and you can still see the remains of the cables and rail tracks used to transport rocks onto the barges. Some good fishing out there too, highly recommended!
not one of the comments on the Pride Parade was made from a Solvang or Valley person as far anyone here can tell, as page posted is a tourist page- so it mostly looks like TROLLS. And they come out when their is no policing of page.... It would be fun if you did a deep dive on the couple who started the big rucus about flags/sidewalks =PRIDE in Solvang and published plans about opening a home for kids who felt out of place in SYV- they've abruptly closed their doors and moved out of town(?), leaving many sad about the store Onderchild- which had a last ditch effort to stay open by installing a candy filled hallway at their entrance. No webpage to explain their closing, no last day wishes- nothing. Just gone.
The best part about the Channel Islands is how difficult it is to get out there, hope it always remains a iffy, burdensome issue!

Myself and my friends have been "charter curious" for quite some time, with an eye on going to the channel islands. So......please let us know what you figure out!
