The Rancho San Marcos Golf Course Has Reopened

••• After a five-year hiatus and under new ownership, the nine-hole Rancho San Marcos Golf Course, just over the hill on Highway 154, has reopened (Thursday through Sunday).

••• Maren Morris plays the Santa Barbara Bowl on August 3.

••• Band of Horses and Iron & Wine will be at the Arlington Theatre on October 3. I’m a huge fan of Iron & Wine’s first three records, but this sublime song is from an EP it made with Calexico.

••• Construction is expected to start in May on the De La Vina bridge over Mission Creek (near Handlebar Coffee Roasters). Unfortunately, I missed the informational session, where one of the topics was to be how “throughout construction, one-way traffic southbound on De La Vina Street will be maintained.” Does that mean northbound traffic won’t be allowed at all?

••• Press release from the county: “Construction is complete on the permanent replacement bridge at the Cold Springs Trailhead. The bridge is now open to traffic.”

••• The Santa Barbara Effect is a new podcast launching soon with guests such as the founders of Sonos (will someone fix the app already?), the owners of Santa Barbara Sky FC, and artist DJ Javier.

••• I need to walk through El Paseo more often: a shop called Soul Sucker—offering “one-of-a-kind handmade ceramics, plants, arrangements, art, decor, and gifts”—opened there in February. I’ll stop by soon….

••• From the Architectural Foundation of Santa Barbara: “After a hiatus, our beloved Domingo Tour is returning every Sunday morning beginning on May 4. Join us for a relaxed, guided stroll through the heart of Santa Barbara’s architectural charm. Explore hidden details, rich history, and the timeless beauty of our city’s design. The tour begins at the Downtown Public Library courtyard on Anapamu Street, every Sunday at 10 a.m., beginning May 4. $20/person donation.” Reserve via the above link.

•• Next year’s Santa Barbara International Film Festival will be February 4 through 15.

••• The five-story building proposed for 102 W. De La Guerra Street goes before the Planning Commission on May 1. The renderings now have trees blocking the primary facade, but the elevation illustrates how the first floor has been changed.

So wonderful to have this new shop there in the El Paseo. Hand crafted ceramics, plants both real and dried, art, books, candles, decorative glassware, and LOTS of fun garden supplies. Nice to have them there amongst Grassini Winery, Jamie Slone, Loubud Wines, Au Bon Climat, and Bryant Jewelers. Welcome to the neighborhood!

Great to hear that RSM is open again!
Erik — Any current intel on what the new owners are doing with the balance of the property?
