I've been a regular customer of Del Pueblo Cafe for years. I know ownership changed through family. The new gal seemed OK. A few a months ago a friend and I stopped in again for lunch. We ordered some Guacamole with our chips. The owner said they were out. I happened to have a few hundred Avos in my truck. I went out and brought them a bag 30 or so. Not ripe, but very nice of me. Owner took them with no thanks and we never saw her again? We paid our tab with a $100 bill. The waitress told us they did not have any change? And then left the burden on us to come up with the proper amount? (they could of went to ralphs for change).So rude! We vowed never to come back there again. Now they are begging for $ through go fund me? Your customer service went downhill and the portions were shrinking. The customer is #1. You failed in biz. Your fault! As a businessman I would never beg for $ if my biz failed. The new generations are pathetic!

Where did I say I oppose housing on or near State Street? If we are going to build housing it should be downtown or along our urban corridors. But this situation is unique in that the city is making major financial concessions, some permanent, to a global private equity firm. Under no circumstances should the city gift public land or destroy a parking garage in order to make a project "financially feasible" for private equity. It would be such a major mistake to give away our ground rights to Paseo Nuevo to get this project built. Give them another lease, sure, but it's unfathomable to give away public land -- that's permanent and we'll never get it back.
Roger, with all due respect to your opinion, my opinion is that you are a part of the problem. This thinking is what leads us to what we have, a dead downtown and State St with no light at the end of the tunnel. The solution to State St IS housing. We need people down there, and we need them to shop, eat, and support local businesses. We agree on that. But NOBODY will lose money to build housing. The city does not have the money to build housing. We need business minded people that live in reality to find real solutions that lead to real change and real action.

Well- the video of the kid on Friday afternoon playing piano was pretty clear to me. Last time I walked State st to eat dinner at The Blue Owl - State Street was dead for the 4 blocks down and back to the Granada….
This is such a tired trope - "State Street is a ghost town" - usually uttered by the same people who stubbornly claim to never go to State Street. I walk or bike State Street 4-5 times a week and there are always people out and about.
The best thing about being downtown is it’s full of people who actually want to be there rather Nextdoor complainers.

Huh? Public market was packed on Friday night and is always busy. Arigato was bustling 2 weekends ago. Yeah not a lot of retail anymore but that’s an everywhere problem not just a SB problem.

The blacksmith weather vane is on top of the building at 18 East Figueroa St, downtown. You can see it from the Figueroa entrance to La Arcada. Some years ago, I set up my easel in La Arcada and painted it.
It Never ceases to amaze me why this quite unpleasant Christine chooses to read Siteline and continues to live in California.

Perfectly describes State Street! My friend just yesterday posted a picture of her son playing one of those pianos on State Street. He was going to town, not a single person walking around- a total ghost town. That’s what your pictures show as well.

I used to wait tables after college on that lovely patio with the fountain many decades ago. 1129 restaurant was the happening spot in SB for a long time and I probably didn’t appreciate the lovely architecture and carved moldings. I do now and that section of state is really the only part we go to these days. Really appreciate the public Market, Bibi Ji’s, Arigato and Sama Sama and many great spots.
