Hubby and I tried the newly refreshed Sandbar for dinner recently. I ordered fish tacos which were delish (albeit a bit skimpy on the grilled fish) and hubby ordered Achiote Beso Salmon -- crispy sweet corncake, tomatillo chipotle salsa, and serrano crema. That dish was THE highlight of the evening!
Great service, too. The staff really communicates & works well together. Kudos to the hiring manager.

I recall when the WestMarine at the harbor was called The Chandelry. West Marine bought them along with so many along the California coast. Setting up a near monopoly, then offerings got corporatized.
I think the city of SB has physically changed state street at least 8 times since 2020 just pissing our dollars away. It's how California rolls.

I agree the fake wood sidewalks are ridiculous but I like them as a 'proof of concept' of sorts for whatever they're calling the latest plan for State Street. Raising the street so it's level with the sidewalks to create the promenade is the way to go. Eating in parklets and strolling the asphalt is ghetto. Not the image I imagine anyone doing business on State wants to project.
As a cocktail drinker who does not like beer or wine, there is no greater disappointment than when a restaurant advertise cocktails, only to get to the establish and find wine or sake and mixers masquerading. I sympathize with the costs and other hurdles (I can only imagine !) of obtaining a liquor license, but wish establishments would not pretend.

You generally can't put speed bumps on throughways that provide access to emergency services, only in alleys, parking lots, etc.

Totally! The city council has been emphasizing that the Yardi/Paseo Nuevo deal is going to bring in $120,000/year in real estate taxes (which was previously $1.00/year, if I'm not mistaken - and probably cost 10 times that in outside legal fees to broker that deal!) However, if they issued just 3,000 parking tickets per year, or 250 per month, @ $40.00 per ticket for every bozo that violated a no-parking zone, a 15-minute-only parking zone, blocked fire hydrants, etc., they could also collect $120,000/year...
I’ve been parking here and enjoying this spot for 25 years and I’ve never seen speeding or noise. I’ve parked here at all times of day and it’s always calm. I definitely think the surrounding homeowners are behind this.
It would be a terrible idea to put speed bumps there and call it a day.... What kind of idiot would think of something like that to fix the entire situation....

It's been a super popular place to watch the sunset or just gaze at the ocean for many decades, a Santa Barbara treasure. I often go either in my car or by bicycle. I suspect the owners of newly-built luxury homes adjacent to the parking area have complained about noise or whatnot and would love to close the area off to parking permanently.
