••• According to the August 31 Architectural Board of Review agenda, a 25-unit apartment complex—with no parking spaces, thanks to a state law that assumes all cities are built the same—is proposed for 515 W. Los Olivos Street. It’s a Builder’s Remedy project.
••• J. asked why there are earth movers directly above the San Marcos Foothills Preserve, and I’m afraid I haven’t been able to get over there to take look—and I’m a little unconvinced that looking will lead anywhere, anyway. The land is owned by John and Marjolein Warkentin. Perhaps someone who knows them will forward this request for info….
••• “What’s going on in the lot on the corner of Castillo Street and W. Montecito Street?” asks J. “Is it storage or are people living on the property?” Until recently, property was owned by Ed St. George, who planned a hotel on that lot. (The majority of the hotel was actually going to be on 302 and 308 W. Montecito, with nine rooms in an annex at 328 W. Montecito.) A couple of weeks ago, an entity called A&S Corporate paid $3.148 million for the lot. Its intentions are unknown.
