Upcoming Auction of 207-Acre Oceanfront Lot

••• On December 9, the 207-acre property at 9525 Calle Real, with a mile and a half of ocean frontage, will be auctioned with no reserve. It’s just west of the Ritz-Carlton Bacara, and the current asking price is $25 million. The listing has renderings for a house. (“The world is not producing anymore land like this,” emailed the auction house, which is true. In fact, the world is actively eroding land like this.)

••• Opening November 30: Sullivan Goss‘s annual 100 Grand show of 100 artworks for $1000 or less. I asked if there was an image of an artwork from the show that I could run, and this was the response: “This show is of such intense demand that none of the images from the show get released until Monday, November 30 at 9 a.m., at which point they will be visible on our website and immediately be for sale. We have people waiting in line to get in that morning, and the phone rings constantly for a few hours. Last year we sold 47 pieces in two hours. So for logistical reasons we don’t preview any of the art beforehand.” Set your alarm….

••• From the Los Padres Forest Association: “The Forest Service is looking for volunteers who might be interested in helping treat and eliminate non-native noxious weeds within the Santa Barbara front and backcountry areas. You’d be working with the FS biologist. If this sounds fun, or for more information email us at [email protected].”

••• From the Santa Barbara Parks & Recreation Department: “The County of Santa Barbara, Parks Division, is hosting a virtual ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the completion of the newly renovated east end of Lookout Park in Summerland. The ceremony will be held via Zoom at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 1. […] The east end of Lookout Park was renovated to include trails, seating areas, picnic spaces with BBQs, concrete ping pong tables and a bocce ball court. Additional upgrades include drought tolerant plantings, a natural rock drainage system, and a refurbished parking lot.”
