Why do you get the feeling? Because simpletons need simple answers. So they make one up... Or it was gas? Ask your ex-wife. Either way, Musk didnt become a Republican for policy or ideology. Nope. He saw a opportunity to buy the POTUS and manipulate his way to Mars via the most easily swayed, corrupted and idiotic man (men) in American political history. It's all a part of the most glaring and open corruption in American history. And people like you cheer for it, with an exclamation point. If you only knew...
I'm sure people complained just the same about trains, cars, and planes when they became commonplace as well. Ultimately, there have been rocket launches from Vandenberg since the 1950s. One thing I can say for sure is that the space force base won't be going anywhere anytime soon. I think it's probably a safe bet to assume theyll be launching daily or even more frequently in the near future.
The link provided by Meredith is referring to County Court offices, not city of SB. I don't know where I read this but the article said city employees can take unused PTO and vacation days so they will still be getting paid for the two weeks off.
Last I checked the intent of Siteline is to be a clever perspective on all things Santa Barbara...from news to noshes and in between. As far as I can tell, at no point did Erik purport to be the Edward R Murrow of the American Riviera. I for one thoroughly enjoy his discerning eye and take on happenings from the silly to the sublime.
Why do I get the feeling that if Musk stayed a Democrat we'd see articles here about the benefits of what he's putting into space and the massive technological improvements his company(ies) have made? But no, we'd rather stifle these benefits in as much red-tape as possible because of his politics.
Thanks for pointing that out—I added a note to the post.
Yeah "Nice work if you can get it"? This website just recycles other websites reporting, not exactly groundbreaking work being done here.
The county office closure is a furlough, so all the employees being affected are given a forced leave without pay during the holidays, not exactly a vacation. https://www.noozhawk.com/state-budget-cuts-force-furloughs-reduced-court-clerk-office-hours/
Love your “noisy SpaceX run by Trump ally” needs to “curtail its nuisance associated launches” followed by brief about trains- remember when people used to moan about them? They’re still riding the rails. Planes still taking off & landing. What about the new helicopter tours? How are they getting by without upsetting folks? Good luck!
Kim, I couldn’t agree with you more! While perusing the menu RH Firehouse restaurant, they’ve actually named a salad the “Mulholland Drive”. What’s next, the Rodeo Drive risotto?
As the author, Erik, points out, RH Firehouse Grill surprisingly does not offer any vegetarian or vegan option. We commend and so appreciate the Stone House, whose Chef offers stunningly delicious vegan and vegetarian options.
The LA ‘ization of SB continues on every level Beyond sad
I agree with Jared that not everything can be saved, but I think there's still plenty of vacant/underutilized lots in downtown that are better candidates for multi-family new construction. We all benefit from the HLC until it affects something we own ourselves, and then it's bureaucratic overreach. So I commiserate with the owners as well. :)
Alliums are definitely to be avoided in my house! They cause my husband gastrointestinal distress and they make me feel like I have a UTI.
If we save every kit craftsman home in SB, we will not have any new housing to keep housing costs in check. Tough decisions need to be made and not every 100 year old building should be saved, but I do believe we have to keep the character of the city and be respectful of history. Not an easy task, but thoughtful housing should be the priority followed by other interests.
Of all the works of art I've ever seen Marley's are the most delicious. Maybe too delicious. I consume a lot of the gifts I buy, then have to return for more.
Right on Tracey! Can’t believe the lack of concern for our dear Mother Nature.
In my experience, folks who don't like or have an aversion to dogs/cats, fish/seafood, onions/garlic, gluten, alcohol + the like, frequently state simply "I am allergic..." Rather than going into detail that they'd rather not share e.g. "I think dogs/cats are a smelly bother." or "I'm an alcoholic who chooses not to drink.", they say that they're allergic. It generally puts an end the discussion.
Re: alliums It may seem crazy but some folks just can’t eat ‘em without experiencing serious gastric distress that can last for days. Going out to eat can often be like avoiding land mines, and embarrassing, to boot: “Hello. Could you please tell me exactly which items on your menu do not contain any onions?” “ Yes ma’am. Anything on our menu with any kind of delicious-sounding sauce will have onions. You can have a burger, ordered without the onion rings.” Yes, that’s an exaggeration but you get the idea. It’s frustrating. * Supplements such as Akkermansia and digestive enzymes are unfortunately minimally helpful.
Congratulations to the owners of Mackenzie market for making it to this point. We all know how difficult and time consuming it is to go through the permitting processes. What a great addition this new establishment will be with several new places that just opened up in San Roque. They hired the same contractor from Lama Sama that just opened up the street and looks fantastic, so can’t wait to see final product. Troy
Besides the side dishes & a few salads there is a total lack of great choices for vegetarians at our new restaurants. So much meat! Yuk! Is anyone in our educated community concerned about the environment??
Lovely! A beautiful outcome that will finally give this critical link between renowned dtsb and the town's world famous beach its aesthetic due. The underpass has always looked only slightly better than functional. These plans speak to an instance of public-facing infrastructure that visually comports with its own civic and cultural significance. So to speak.
I hope the buildings under consideration for demolition will be saved.
As a cook- people say they are allergic to onions A LOT. I wonder if Brittany’s reply is the reason people use it vs saying their diet doesn't allow onions?
