Barbareño Is Opening a Second Restaurant Downtown

••• According to a help-wanted ad, Barbareño is opening “a technique-driven, modern Californian bistro” (which also describes Barbareño?) at the former Louie’s California Bistro inside The Upham hotel at De La Vina and Sola.

••• The Derf’s Cafe space at De La Vina and Mission Street will become the second outpost of Jonesy’s Fried Chicken. —Restaurant Guy

••• Dom’s Taverna, the increasingly interesting-looking restaurant coming to the old Trattoria Vittoria on Victoria Street (State/Anacapa), says it expects to open in June. Peeking inside the other day got me thinking it might be late June.

••• “The Isla Vista Food Co-op has raised $55,170 to avert a potential closure of the neighborhood market. […] ‘Our main issue is a backlog of accounts payable that we need to be able to address as quickly as possible, but it is a real challenge with the sales that we’re currently seeing,’ said Lisa Oglesby, president of the co-op’s board of directors. ‘We’re improving, but without donations to help get through this short-term window, it’s just really difficult.'” —Noozhawk

••• The Santa Barbara outpost of L.A. burger chain The Win-Dow opens June 5 at the corner of Chapala and Ortega. A flyer explains some of the introductory specials. P.S. The renovation of the building diminished much of its charm.

••• The Independent profiled Red Hen Cannery, Carpinteria-based makers of jams and marmalade. The tomato and spice jam is a staple in our house.

••• A business called Luna’s Cafe is coming to the Judge for Yourself Cafe space at the corner of Santa Barbara Street and Equestrian Avenue. There’s nothing online other than a categorization as “coffee and tea,” but the beer-and-wine-license notice in the window indicates the ambitions go beyond that.

Hi Erik, by chance do you have any information on what is happening with the former Metropulos location? Such a fantastic spot and prime location in the Funk Zone, hoping there might be some sort of update in the near future. Thanks!

Those of us who live and work downtown are so happy to see Win Dow Burger about to open, the charm is affordable and easy to walk to.

Red Hen jams and marmalades are the best, glad to see them getting the attention they deserve.

Word on the street is no mas on the spreads, she has been “out of stock” since her first drop, over 2 months ago. Poor planning?
