An Interesting Restaurant Opens in Ventura This Weekend

••• On Saturday, Model Citizen restaurant and bar, from the Prospect Coffee Roasters folks, opens in Ventura. It’s just dinner for now—Gabriel Lindsey’s menu (below) looks appealing—with “happy hour, weekend brunch, and daytime and morning cafe services to follow in the coming months.”

••• “SocialEats, an Instagram-ready food concept from Los Angeles–based hospitality group K2 Restaurants, is coming to 6521 Pardall Road in Isla Vista [….] The restaurant offers burgers, tacos, noodles, sushi, seafood, coffee, salads and more. SocialEats describes its business as ‘a food discovery platform and space where modern cuisine meets a one-of-a-kind community experience, all built upon a foundation of stellar culinary concepts with a lineup ranging from globally recognized chefs to local rising stars.’” Uh huh. —Restaurant Guy

••• From seafood CSA Get Hooked: “Get Hooked is now actively seeking chef, restaurant and grocery partners who are excited and passionate about local, sustainable seafood. Know a restaurant or a chef that specializes in seasonal seafood? We want to get more sustainable California seafood in the hands of our local chefs. How about a grocer where you’d like to see a regular supply of ahi, opah, salmon, swordfish and albacore burgers? If there’s a place you shop regularly that cares about locally-sourced food, we want to hear your suggestions.”

••• Restaurant Guy has more on the new owner’s plans for Sear Steakhouse in Solvang—including that it’ll be renamed Crawford’s Steakhouse.

••• L. noticed that 1 Paradise Road, the 78-acre property that includes the former Paradise Store & Grill, has sold. No word on whether the new owner has any plans to reopen the establishment. UPDATE 3/26: I heard back from the listing agent, who said that the new owner has mentioned the possibility of reopening the store.

••• Here’s a collaboration I can get behind: Third Window Brewing Co. is now selling containers of Creaminal ice cream flavored with its Walkabout stout.
