A New Chapter for an 1825 Adobe Downtown

It was while researching one of the earliest Walk With Me posts, about E. Canon Perdido, that I noticed the entrance to Randall House Rare Books, in a 19th-century adobe on Laguna just below E. Canon Perdido. I made a note to visit sometime, and then Covid happened. So I was disappointed to see that the building recently sold—somehow I had missed that it was listed last month and that Randall House announced back in 2020 that it would be closing. From the listing: “Built in 1825, it is one of a small number of surviving adobe houses from the Mexican period of California’s history. The original adobe received an addition in 1956 matching its historic style elements. It was designated a National Historic Landmark on April 15, 1970, and added to the National Register of Historic Places.” The buyers are serial renovators, so here’s hoping we get to see it when it’s reborn.
