Welcome to the Siteline Newsletter!

October 24, 2019|by Erik Torkells

It took a bit longer than expected, but Siteline‘s email newsletter is officially up and running. Every Monday and Thursday morning, I’ll send out a digest of posts from the past few days; just click the link to read the full article. (There’s more info here if you don’t remember signing up.)

Below are a few highlights since the site launched two months (!) ago. As I suspected, the content has spread beyond real estate, mainly to the food scene for now. I’ve also been curating news items from other local media. Ultimately, my goal is to create the news site that I, and hopefully you, want to read—not comprehensive, but focused on the things we care about. No traffic accidents, no sports scores, no political rants….

Please do forward the email to anyone who might care, and you can always reply to me directly. (Tips are especially welcome.) And if you want to encourage folks to subscribe, all the better.

JUST LISTED: A PASSION PROJECT INSPIRED BY THE ALHAMBRA AND A FERRARI
One wonders what Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara, whose portrait hangs inside, would make of the house, on the market for $29 million. Take a look around.

THE MONARCH AND SILVER BOUGH RESTAURANTS HAVE CLOSED
More food news and notes: The Bear and Star at the Fess Parker inn in Los Olivos has closed; Lab Social cocktail bar extended its Sunday hours; the revamped Cuyama Buckhorn motel now serves dinner; Pascucci will move in January.

OLD MEETS NEW AT THE MASSIVE MONTECITO SHOWROOM OF LUCCA ANTIQUES
The Lucca philosophy is decidedly wabi-sabi, where imperfections and patina are embraced for their beauty, their uniqueness, and the history they represent. Step inside….

WHY DO FRENCH-INSPIRED HOUSES HAVE A HARD TIME SELLING?
Other recent price cuts: The stylish Cielito house of a “master flipper”; a Hope Ranch estate with dated interiors; and a San Roque spec house with the world’s largest dreamcatcher. Plus: This weekend’s schedule of open houses.

THE FORMER LES MARCHANDS SPACE IS NOW A COCKTAIL BAR
More food news and notes: Enterprise Fish Co. is rumored to be closing; more turnover at the Santa Barbara Public Market; Bettina celebrates its first anniversary with free spritzes; terrific art at Café Ana.

JUST LISTED: BEYOND THIS NONDESCRIPT FACADE IS A VERY INTERESTING HOUSE
You could pass by 331 E. Canon Perdido without guessing what’s inside—or even noticing the building at all. Designed in 1981 by the owner, it’s a miniature hacienda above a two-car garage.

Thanks for your patience and I hope you find it illuminating and/or entertaining!
