••• L. asked what;s happening with Bogavante, the Mexican seafood restaurant slated for the former Stella Mare’s Bistro building on Los Patos Way. Proprietor Alejandro Marin obliged:
Bogavante is alive and well. We’ve got the permits, the liquor license, and a city-approved plan set; all rough in installations are in; and the custom hearth grill that the whole kitchen is built around is done and waiting. Construction picks back up this fall, and we’re aiming to open in early 2027.
This project has taken us so long because the house needed a full restoration. We fell in love with it. It’s a beautiful and important building, and we decided to do it right, restoring and preserving everything from the underground plumbing to the last detail. That turned it into a much bigger project than we planned, and costs grew far beyond our original budget.
So, the honest update is that we’re still raising money to finish it. Bogavante has become a big part of a bigger plan for our group, Muy Salsa Hospitality (Loreto and Santa Canela), and we’re actively talking with new investors right now to fund the next stage.
