Inquiring about any update to reopening of Lovin Spoonful on the Mesa...
Is that in the alleyway off the 700 block of State Street leading to De La Guerra Plaza?
Close to 20 years ago my friend and I walked up to 12 West and a man , who said he was housesitting the place, asked us in. He gave us a full tour and a cocktail! Place is sooo cool!
"DeSeussed" would also work
"Desheltonized" gave me a much needed chuckle this Friday morning. Thank you for your service.
We're wishing "Merci" much success. Any plan for a vegan entrée? Perhaps a hearty vegetable stew-like soup served with crusty bread? Many thanks for considering that.

Actually, that is a sane reply — get a grip, it’s just a meal
Well, if Yetz's Bagels knows their market as they may, there could be wisdom I can't see in opening a second outlet a couple of miles away from the first. If it were my decision, I might have spaced location #2 a bit farther away. 😎 Starbux seems to get away with it, but they have 5 gazillion stores covering 3/4ths of Earth's surface. Still, I wish them well.
Lucky’s, Tre Lune and Los Arroyos have been there for over 20 years. Not bad. And feels like the Chinese restaurant has been around forever. When we moved back to SB in 2010 we were amazed at some of the restaurants that were still around from our college days long ago.
Excited to try Merci for dinner! I personally love that location and everything about the Montecito Country Mart. It’s no problem being across from the grocery store. Wishing them continued success.
These walks are fantastic! You’ve got a great eye for design and architectural details. I’m sure many of us long time Santa Barbarans have learned a thing or two about our town and perhaps you’ve inspired people to take a walk on their own.
This dinner menu looks delicious. I wonder if that steak au poivre is an homage to the signature dish at Bistro Paul Bert. Best of luck to them!
Hmmm I’m not sure I believe that The Lovin’ Spoonful will reopen in the next few weeks. The same sign has been in the window since the fire and there has been no activity inside since. I’m at the shopping center a few times a week.
I cannot imagine a worse location for a Re-Store. No parking. Overtly difficult access via one-way streets and a steady stream of tourists and homeless passing by on their way to the beach or the bar. They're a store that resells home construction items like doors, windows, furniture, cabinets and misc hardware to local contractors and DIY'rs. WTF were they thinking?
Mystery graffiti, Red- no SCE Blue-no water Green- no sewer
Lasting seven years, nowadays feels monumental. Look at Coast Village Road's track record. I appreciate Merci for being genuine and consistent. Dinner looks great and I hope it's a success.
How long is a “longtime”
The listing agent says it sold for $3.5 million (and I see the $2.799 million on Redfin, but I don't know what that's about).
I agree. I walk by this house often. I can't imagine paying $3.5 million for it. Thought I did notice a closing price change to $2,799,000. Yes, amazing unblocked views. But you'd have to tear it down after the years of ick. Did you notice? It was purchased in 1988 for $350k. Someone made a great return!
Ricardo Ave does have incredible views, but that is a bonkers price for a former hoarder house.
Erik, Your 'Walk With Me' write-ups are always entertaining and inspiring! Thanks :-)
Man oh man, that's a lot to digest! Us old-timers remember when the Bankruptcy Court was the lovely I. Magnin store.... i worked at 1900 State - didn't know it was called "El Dorado" nor did i notice the 1963 by Janis Mattox's “Santa Barbara" assemblage... as I was too busy fighting with Dave Fritzen (founder of Santa Barbara Magazine, Islands magazine, etc.) when i was editor of what finally became Seasons Magazine. I was trying to get him to change the title of the magazine previously known as "This Week in Santa Barbara" since it was a quarterly. Mission accomplished. RIP I. Magnin... Dave Fritzen.. Seasons magazine.. and much, much more.

Back side of Cantwells market.
Finally I give two shits about this game, but apparently more was expected of me. I’m worried we’re headed to the third page of the site. Please don’t. Hints? 🙏
Regarding the new health Academy program: these types of programs are all over the state of California in most high schools. They are called Career Technical Education, and they give students the opportunity to experience a career pathway before spending time and money on a degree for something they may not enjoy. They are available for police and fire as cadet programs. It's the pathway my son took to become a fireman. Additionally, there are JROTC for the military, culinary arts programs (Oxnard college has their own restaurant), engineering, programming, and many more. For some students, it may lead to college for others or right into a career, but research shows that they have a better opportunity for success, knowing more about what they're choosing.
