One might think no , but our government has a law that says yes , Eminent Domain. There is a Historic Preservation Act as well but that does not stop demolition of the building
Carol- as teens my friends and I would sneak around with the same age boys from St Anthony's, and the stories they told us would curl your hair. Of course not everyone who attended was abused, but I'm sure there are many young men who hope this place burns to the ground....
Your comment is NEGATIVE and CRUEL beyond belief!!
Just wondering if this place is haunted by the many children that were sadly abused here?
I'm aware of the article covering the builder's remedy issue in SB which includes a mention of the original plans for 500+ apartments. I cannot find anything addressing the current iteration or a seven story building which is the present proposal. If such an article exists, then I would deeply appreciate you linking to it. I don't think it has been covered in such specific detail, however.
She also owned Clark’s Shoes & was proud of her “cobblers upstate”. Her last visitor at Bellosguardo was Gore Vidal in 2007 ~ he had a stroke in the limousine on the way up the driveway & never got out of the car, she had to send him home. Surprising more locals haven’t stuck up for her ~ everyone knew when she was in town every Summer because the front gate was open & you could drive up to the phone, if admitted the second gate would swing open.
The Independent published a very comprehensive article about the proposed apartment complex next to the Mission. I believe you can find it online. It’s worth reading.
The public should have rights over someone else's private property?
There is no way 7 stories of apartments will ever or should ever be approved next to the mission. It seem like a school right end hotel would be ideal for this property. It must be preserved!
This are Majestic Buildings. Doesn't the public get any rights to enjoy the heritage of these wonderful buildings? Couldn't the people mandate they don't allow these buildings to be destroyed and have public access to learn and share the history?
Devastated by this news, always a must stop when coming through SB
That is real bad news. Homeowners insurance will treat it a lot like a flood, your homeowners insurance will not cover it. It as a non-covered event. Taking back by nature and excluded on your policy.Santa Barbara county may look at it the same too. you just lost your property. SOL. very sad, but a very clear and obvious risk of placing a home on the side of a big hill.
Extremely thorough. Thank you for the work you do!
Just saw the shoe for the first time!!! Headed home (Monterey county) from Vacation in San Diego.
I went to the Building Department and asked to see the plans. I think it's in a pre-application phase, so it hasn't shown up on any agendas yet.
I also cannot understand this. It really seems like an odd choice all around.
Seven stories tall next to the Mission?! Erik, would you be so kind as to share where you’re following the latest on that project? I’ve googled the address but am not getting much. Is someone else reporting on it or are you accessing information through one of the city building / permitting portals? Thanks!
The Sperling family through their charitable San Roque school Trust has lost interest in education once their children finished school. Now instead of being charitable and doing something for the community they are looking to make a profit.
I’m so excited about Little Alex’s rebirth. I used to eat lunch at their Montecito location often. Can’t wait to grab a bite at Five Points!
Would someone please ask the relevant city official to explain why they decided to locate it such as to require closing Carrillo St, a busy crosstown street, instead of putting the entire market above or below Carrillo where its impact on traffic flow would be much less?
The Santa Barbara Police Department is building a new headquarters on the parking lot that's currently the site of the Saturday farmers' market.
I agree. There is nothing wrong with where the farmers market is now. Why is it moving?
In the funk zone at the Love marketplace, near Mony’s
Wow, back in the day my Grandma built the house at 1131 Las Alturas road, hope it's okay.
Cagami Ramen responded to a comment on their Instagram saying they'll be in the Hollister Center! ????????????????????
