New Tenant for RH’s Former Store on State Street

••• San Luis Obispo–based Thrifty Beaches—”a sustainability-focused vintage clothing and furniture store”—is opening in the former RH space at 710 State Street. According to the SLO Tribune, the shop should open in the next couple of weeks; building owner SIMA, which has long been working on redeveloping that site with a hotel, says the lease is through September 2027. Of note: Thrifty Beaches will buy items. (Below: the SLO store.)

••• Coming this summer to Home Crush’s former space at 2500 Lillie Avenue in Summerland: “Miss B’s Children’s Club provides playful learning experiences through the arts, with a philosophy grounded in creativity, nature, and community. Camps, creative play, and parties are some of the experiences we invite you to discover at Miss B’s with a community of children aged from birth to eight years.”

••• Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats play the Santa Barbara Bowl on October 2.

••• Olada Yoga & Reformer Pilates opens at Linden Square in Carpinteria on June 23.

••• “Santa Barbara Nissan [425 S. Kellogg Avenue in Goleta] is ending its time in Santa Barbara,” says A. “I just got my oil changed from them and they let me know that they have new owners and the new owners did not renew their agreement with Nissan. Nissan owners can go to Toyota (next door) to get service. The whole Nissan lot in front will become another car business, and the employees didn’t know what company it would become.” When I called to confirm, I was told that the business is “shifting into Toyota.”

••• Pete Yorn will be at the Soho Music Club on August 23. I doubt Scarlett Johansson will show up, but you never know….

••• From the most recent Highway 101 construction update:

The improved northbound lanes between Sheffield Drive and Hermosillo Road, a new auxiliary lane between San Ysidro Road and Olive Mill Road, the updated northbound on-ramp at San Ysidro Road, and the improved northbound off-ramp at Hermosillo Road will open on the night of June 28.

The night of July 12, the southbound freeway lanes between Olive Mill Road and Posilipo Lane will move to the median. The southbound lanes will be divided by safety barriers for the next stage of construction through summer 2026. The southbound on-ramp at Olive Mill Road will close for nine months. The southbound off-ramp at San Ysidro Road will close for three months.

••• On June 21, Ikat and Pearls is opening a second Ventura store, this one a pop-up “garden boutique,” at 40 S. California Street.

With the Olive Mill southbound on-ramp closing and the Posilipo Ln ramp still closed, Sheffield will be the only access point for the southbound 101 between Milpas and Summerland, correct? Ugh.

Sign of the times, we lose a Nissan dealership and gain a Bentley dealership.

I was at the dealer on Monday and Acura is moving to be with Honda in Goleta and they have added Bentley to Land Rover and Jaguar.

Gregg Motors had a Rolls-Royce franchise back in the day out on Hope Ave and Bentleys use a lot of parts from modern Audis and Porsches so it’s a logical move. Nissan is a troubled brand right now and dealers have been dropping the franchise left and right for a few years now, so it’s surprising that little dealership in Goleta lasted this long.

Recent editions have included pics of the Upham but no news attached. The place seems almost shut down. Any info?

Has anyone else checked out all the Ikat & Pearls locations in Carpinteria, Ventura and Ojai? A great fun boutique to treat yourself and others to gifts and personal and home items. Love the jewelry and cashmere clothing! Love this place! Can’t wait to see this new gardening shop they put together. One of my favorite boutiques places to
Shop.
