Mate Gallery Is Opening a Men’s Shop Next Door

••• The only important new this morning is obviously the Cave Fire, which you can follow on many local news sources (so I won’t bother doing it here). Please stay safe, everyone! And take a moment, again, to think about what an extraordinary job our firefighters do.

••• Lyle Lovett and his Acoustic Group play UCSB’s Campbell Hall on February 20. (Tickets here.) I’m most partial to Lyle Lovett and His Large Band, but as his Tiny Deck Concert on NPR attests, he’s good no matter whom he’s playing with. P.S. “Good Intentions,” which starts at 13:40 in the video below, is one of his very best.

••• In early December, Mate Gallery at the Montecito Country Mart is opening a men’s shop in the space next door. I don’t know if it’s only for the holiday season.

••• Caltrans says that the start of the Carpinteria phase of the Highway 101 widening has been moved up to the spring of 2020, up from summer. Construction is excepted to last through 2023.

••• Opening December 2 at Sullivan Goss gallery: “the eleventh annual 100 Grand exhibition […] featuring 102 quality works of art for $1,000 or less [….] 100 Grand will feature paintings, drawings, photographs, assemblage and sculpture by emerging and established artists that are priced to sell and sized (for the most part) to fit into smaller spaces. For this year’s exhibition, Contemporary Curator Susan Bush was able to secure work from many of last year’s best-selling artists, but there are more than a dozen new artists who have never before shown with Sullivan Goss.” The opening reception is December 5. Below: Scott Anderson’s “Thunderhead Afternoon.”

••• I spotted this card at the Read N’ Post at the Montecito Country Mart. A rough translation: “I want to stick my hand in your cavity and fondle your internal organs.”
