Fresco at the Market Opens Today at the Santa Barbara Public Market

••• There’s a lot going on at the Santa Barbara Public Market…. I made a beeline for the Lily’s Donuts & Pops pop-up there last weekend when I saw on Instagram that an old fashioned donut was among the two choices that day. (The other was “butter cake.”) They’re cake donuts, and I think the old fashioned one was meant to have the flavor of an old fashioned cocktail—hence the cherry and citrus zest garnish—rather than an old fashioned donut. I still enjoyed it though; it doesn’t have the funky mouthfeel that you sometimes get with a donut, possibly because the oil is better and/or fresher, which may explain why the Lily’s Donuts are $5 each. I wasn’t familiar with butter cake as a thing, so I can’t really say whether it lived up to the name. It was saltier than I expected, but that didn’t stop me from eating it, too.

••• In more Public Market news, Fresco at the Market opens today at 11 a.m. It’s the new iteration of Fresco Café, formerly of E. Canon Perdido and Five Points Shopping Center. The opening menu:

••• And also at the Market, Seoulmate Kitchen is shooting to debut the second week of July. Here’s the menu for the cafe counter:

And here are the lunch and dinner menus for the restaurant counter:

••• Congratulations to Silvers Omakase for earning a Michelin star after just a year and a half of operation.

••• Bar Lou has added a bar menu, which includes hanger steak frites for $34. And the patio got a nice upgrade.

••• Noozhawk profiled Tutti Frutti Farms, known for its heirloom tomatoes.

••• Joplin’s has opened in Ojai, promising “food, drinks, and rock n’ roll.” The proprietors are Dutchess chef/co-owner Saw Naing and Brittany Naing of Namari non-alcoholic amaro.

••• Elsewhere in Ojai, Radio Roma is a new mezcal/vinyl bar in the commercial complex on the east side of Libbey Park. It offers Mexican food, too, although presumably not as much as when the affiliated Taco Roma opens in the space next door.

Fresco at the Public Market is a most welcome addition. I miss the original location and menu. Break a leg!

It moves around. From a recent Instagram post: “We’re taking a short break for the 4th of July! But don’t worry, we’ll be back Thursday, July 10th, serving Smashies at Captain Fatty’s Brewery in Goleta. Friday July 11th in the Funk Zone at High Seas Mead. And of course July 14th at Glitter Brunch at Wildcat Lounge.”
