••• Cutler’s Distillery & Public House (above), a new bar and restaurant at 418 N. Salsipuedes Street, is in a series of soft-openings, including today through Saturday, 5-10 p.m. They’re for members only, but anyone is welcome, as long as you sign up for the club ($10 per month, with $10 off your first drink), and you can cancel at any time.
••• The new restaurant from chef Thomas Keller in the Tyde’s space at the Coral Casino will not be called Tyde’s. The new name has yet to be announced; here’s hoping it doesn’t involve a pun.
••• After an 11-year (!) hiatus, the free Hunt & Gather event is back this Saturday, noon-3 p.m., on Sama Sama’s back terrace. Vendors include Oat Bakery, Gipsy Hill Bakery, Jessica Foster Confections, Twenty-Four Blackbirds, Apiary Beverage Co., Table Salt Screen Printing, Nosotros Tequila & Mezcal, and Lily Hays Wines. Vendors will be offering samples as well as selling their products.
••• Masala Spice opened in Mesa Verde’s old space on the Mesa.
••• The Breakwater Restaurant has moved forward its temporary closure. Look for it to reopen in the spring “with a new look… and more importantly new bathrooms.”

••• While doing research for the next roundup of forthcoming restaurants, I called Trattoria del Sole in Sherman Oaks to see whether the plan for an outpost at 1027 State Street was still on. “I’m not sure, to be honest,” was the response.

Such a shame about Judge For Yourself. We went after the owner/chef retired and they were very clearly struggling.
I feel like it’s difficult to get a no frills, consistently good breakfast in Santa Barbara. I just don’t always want a bougie brunch.
We can only go to Cajun so many times…
