A Slew of Shows Announced for the Santa Barbara Bowl

••• After dribbling out show announcements for months, the Santa Barbara Bowl opened the spigot: Rainbow Kitten Surprise on May 27; Steve Martin and Martin Short on June 17; Fleet Foxes on July 9; My Morning Jacket on August 16; and Bonnie Raitt with Mavis Staples on September 22. Tickets for all of them go on sale this Friday.

••• A few upcoming shows at the Arlington Theatre: Kevin Hart on February 27, Ray LaMontagne on May 4, and Lila Downs on May 5.

••• The city’s Parks and Recreation Department announced that the Oak Park Dance Floor will be closed from February 14 through early April for restoration. The release included background on the dance floor: “The historic Oak Park Dance Floor was originally built in 1926 for the Campbell family of Goleta to serve as a dance floor for a gala honoring England’s Prince George. When Col. Colin Campbell died in 1941, it was purchased at auction by a local farmer, Peter Irvine, and transferred to Oak Park, where it has been ever since. The well-loved Dance Floor hosts a diverse array of dance and fitness programs every week.”

••• From the county’s Community Hazardous Waste Collection Center: “Please note that the Center is only available to residents in the cities of Goleta, Santa Barbara, and Solvang and those living in the unincorporated areas of the County. Starting March 5, residents will be required to show proof of residency with either a driver’s license, utility bill, or car registration.”

••• Up now through April 17 at the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara: This Basic Asymmetry, which “presents the work of five artists whose practices make available their personal processes of introspection, creating a space for the viewer to reflect on their own relationship to their bodies and how that informs one’s perception of others.” Below: “9-19-1-4-15-18-5” by Patricia Ayres; photo by Ed Mumford.

••• And through April 10 at Marcia Burtt Gallery: the annual Summer in Winter exhibition. Below: “Summer Field” by Randall David Tipton.

I just read that Rod Stewart will be at the SB Bowl at some point this season, too. I have an old boss that will be very happy, lol.

Christine!

Remember when he stood up a seated audience at the Bowl? He called into KTYD the next am and the DJ gave him a thumping- he made up for it in a reasonable time frame. I would be happy to see him?

I had forgotten about that last gig. You’re right though, he’s great and I would guess he puts on a really fun show.
