A New Place to See and Be Seen in Santa Barbara

The Palihouse Santa Barbara hotel has opened in what was the Spanish Garden Inn, on Garden Street, below Carrillo. Parent brand Palisociety wasn’t keen on my taking photos, so these are all courtesy of the company, but I did go over to make sure that they jibed with reality. The hotel—Palisociety’s ninth, with two more in the oven—does indeed look great. Instagrammable backdrops are everywhere you turn; you can just see models draped hither and yon for the inevitable Santa Barbara Life & Style fashion shoot.

The hotel—24 rooms, with published rates from $300 to $450—certainly fills a niche downtown. Local residents, meanwhile, might be more interested in the bar and courtyard café, which are both open to the public. If the all-day menu (avocado toast, club sandwich, Cobb salad, etc.) isn’t particularly exciting, the setting makes up for it. The hotel will likely become a popular place for stylish Santa Barbarans to take a meeting.
