A Dramatic Upgrade for the Garden Street Hotel Conversion

••• Great news for the hotel conversion at 812 Garden Street (Canon Perdido/De La Guerra): the dated building is going to get an entirely new look after all, according to plans submitted ahead of the Historic Landmarks Commission’s June 7 meeting.

••• The Santa Barbara Surf Film Festival is June 9 and 10, and it includes a block party.

••• From the June 9 agenda for the county’s Central Board of Architectural Review: “further conceptual and preliminary review of construction of 22 RV cabins, 17 yurts, a 1200 square foot campground support building, an 1800 square foot camper services building, a 2700 square foot camper services barn, and a 592 square foot comfort station. The following structures exist on the parcel: a 5,716 square foot multi-function support building and a 3,394 square foot vehicle and equipment carport.” It’s at 11180 Calle Real, which is just past the Ritz-Carlton Bacara and Driftwood Beach, and the developer appears to be Sun Communities.

••• In light of recent events, this might be an especially good year to celebrate SYV Pride.

••• The Santa Barbara Mariachi Festival returns to the Santa Barbara Bowl on August 5.

••• Heaven knows I make typos al the time, but at least they’re easily fixable….
