High-End Rehab Facility Proposed for a Eucalyptus Hill Estate

••• The seven-bedroom estate at 937 Cima Linda Lane on one of Eucalyptus Hill’s prime streets didn’t sell when it was listed in May 2025 for $23.5 million. Plan B was evidently to lease it out, and a “residential program” for mental-health treatment, including addiction, was the taker. At least one neighbor is not thrilled at the prospect of Casa Amara for various reasons, such as the inappropriateness of a commercial medical business in a single-family home in a residential neighborhood and the narrow road, with implications if there’s a fire.

••• Punch Vintage reopens today at 631 State Street. It’s both new and old, which is apt.

••• “Did the San Ysidro Ranch add a greenhouse?” asked G. “It’s quite visible from the San Ysidro Trail, and I don’t remember it being mentioned before.” Me neither. I’d wager it’s for a big event, possibly a wedding, after someone got spooked by the recent rainstorms. We’ll have to see whether it gets disassembled in the next week or two.

••• According to the November 4 Historic Landmarks Commission agenda, Ambassador Park in West Beach will get renamed as Syuxtun Park once its transformation into a Chumash monument is complete.

••• The November 6 South Board of Architectural Review agenda says that Coastal Blooms, the owner of 3798 Via Real (next to Seaside Gardens nursery), would like to build a 20,000-square-foot cannabis processing building. Given the impact that cannabis industry has had on Carpinteria, perhaps the county should consider pressing pause on further development.

••• No one guessed the answer to last weekend’s Where in Santa Barbara…?, so I posed the answer. It’s the Magic Castle Cabaret building at 30 Los Patos Way.

••• Channel Islands Surfboards is expanding into the former Shopkeepers space at Linden Square.

••• Costco has opened in Camarillo at 431 W. Ventura Boulevard, near the airport.

••• I don’t know if you can see it clearly, but a Christmas tree and other winter-holiday decorations are in Emily Joubert‘s window. In October! Thanksgiving should sue.

Even if it is just a “temporary” greenhouse or pavilion, did TY or SYR have or get any permits to erect the structure?
