What’s Next for Montecito’s Triangular Vacant Lot

••• “Next year, Montecito Community Foundation has committed to helping fund two significant projects: the proposed walking path on Olive Mill Lane from North Jameson to Casa Dorinda, which is being overseen by the Bucket Brigade, and the ‘triangle’ in front of Casa Dorinda [the intersection of Olive Mill and Hot Springs Road], which will be beautified and maintained by Montecito Community Foundation.” —Montecito Journal

••• Remember the tornado warning on Christmas? One actually touched down in Ventura. The National Weather Service investigator “said the brief twister originated near the Santa Clara River and moved less than a mile across the harbor, apparently scattering strawberries from local agricultural fields. The tornado was about 25 to 30 feet wide, and it […] was rated a 0—the lowest level—on the Enhanced Fujita Scale that’s used to measure tornado intensity and damage.” —VC Star

••• “Santa Barbara County Firefighters rescued a downed paraglider who had sustained injuries at Montecito Peak Sunday morning.” —KEYT

••• “One Isla Vista oceanfront property’s patio partially collapsed on Saturday afternoon. The house on Del Playa Drive saw about 10 feet of patio, including furniture and part of the railing, fall into the ocean. No injuries were reported. […] Santa Barbara County has an erosion policy in place for the 84 cliffside properties on Del Playa Drive. The County is now working to update that policy to create a bigger buffer zone between the properties and the cliff.” —KEYT

••• “An enhanced facility at the Santa Barbara Wildlife Care Network would help the organization deliver better care for wildlife. A new building has been a dream for several years, and conceptual plans now have been drawn. An approximately 5,000-square-foot, two-story building is proposed for the property at 1460 N. Fairview Ave. in Goleta. A sea bird structure, a raccoon habitat, a service shed, animal shelters and two trailers are housed on the 1.4-acre site.” —Noozhawk
