••• Venus in Furs, the new bar/restaurant/bottle shop in the old Middle Child space, from the folks behind The Good Lion and Barbaréno groups, soft-opens this Saturday from 3 p.m. to midnight. (Given the parade of images on Instagram from last night, you might be able to try your luck tonight.) The cocktail menu extends the S&M theme implied by the name, with options such as Kiss the Boot and The Gentle Whip.

••• I was driving along E. Cabrillo when I saw signage for Costa Kitchen & Bar at the Mar Monte Hotel, as the Hyatt Centric across from the Cabrillo Pavilion has been rebranded. There are actually two restaurants on the property: Costa, which will serve dinner once inside dining is allowed again, and Café Lido, the poolside restaurant currently open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays). Both are operated by the hotel. Here’s Costa, with two interior shots from the hotel’s website:
And here’s the interior and menu for Café Lido, where of course you’d actually be dining outside, by the pool. Hotel guests are also allowed to order from the chaises.
