••• Commercial real estate agent Caitlin Hensel reports that House of Brutal Power Building Gym—the name could use an exclamation point (or two)—is moving into the former MAD Fitness space at the corner of Chapala and Victoria. Classes start June 1, with the grand opening day on August 1.
••• You may have noticed that big red shoe on Highway 101 is no longer there. It was stolen last month.
••• The Orangetheory studio on the Chapala side of Paseo Nuevo will close April 27.
••• From the city: “The City will host two community engagement workshops to update residents on the Vic Trace Reservoir Replacement Project. Located in the Alta Mesa neighborhood, this storage reservoir is a vital component of the City’s water distribution system, serving nearly 60,000 people or 70% of Santa Barbara. This multi-year Project will build a new reservoir facility with the same capacity to meet future water storage needs for resiliency and reliability. The Project is currently in design and construction is expected to begin in 2028.” Perhaps someone will know who (?) Vic Trace was. UPDATE: “Victor ‘Vic’ Trace (1872-1937) was a City Water Superintendent in the early 1900s,” explained the project engineer.
••• Game Seeker‘s lease isn’t being renewed. (It’s in one of the Hotel Santa Barbara’s State Street storefronts.) Owner Ingrid Estrella is looking for a new space, and in the meantime, everything is 30 percent off.
••• “Interior designer Jess Landis of Studio JL Design is opening Studio JL Home Shop in the former Monighetti’s Feedstore building (545 Avenue of the Flags) in Buellton. “The 1,500-square-foot space will feature a mix of vintage and antique furniture, primitive pieces, and one-of-a-kind home goods.” There’s a grand opening party on April 26, after which the hours will be Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Photo by Nicole Schmiedl.)
••• The Illuminate Film Festival—”the forefront of the conscious film movement, dedicated to inspiring lasting personal and planetary transformation through the power of visual storytelling”—is May 1-4.
••• The Los Patos roundabout (at Cabrillo Boulevard, Channel Drive, and Hot Springs) came out nice. But the “no outlet” sign at Channel Drive strikes me as potentially confusing, because that’s true for cars, but not for bicycles or pedestrians.
Sign up for the Siteline email newsletter and you’ll never miss a post.
Leave the sign “no outlet” as it is. Bikers and walkers will certainly figure it out . No need to promote more traffic in this area.
Important to leave “no outlet” sign! That dead-end road leads to Butterfly Walkway where motorized ebikers and speeding racing bikes already threaten walkers, joggers and families strolling with children.
All I’m suggesting is that the sign say “no outlet for cars” or something like that.
