My first home in Montecito was on Willina Lane.....in a little cottage previously owned by Fanny Flagg. Fried Green Tomatoes was written while she was in residence. I loved the neighborhood then and still do now. Speaking of love - I'm a big fan of Siteline - best read out there.
I heard that the path from East Padres to Plaza Rubio was part of a historic Indian trail and could not be built upon for preservation reasons. . It is very cool.
This is a magical 'walk about' that I have been honored to observe for over 40 years having been on most all these properties as a Broker and Design Consultant. You provided memory lane for me and opened doors and gates for so many others ...so beautiful!

What a great article. Thank you for posting this.
Corner of State and Padre by the church!
I love that Ortega Ridge house!!!
I live right behind the Mackenzie Market and in the past few months I have seen the property get cleaned up (thank you) new ownership. If I have one request for this new restaurant please have plenty of salads on your menu and offer them at a good or should I say reasonable price. I will be there often.
Beautiful tour?
Love it. We lived in 200 Miramar as a kid, early ‘90s. The backyard is bisected by a creek, which is very cool and slightly terrifying during El Niño years. We had duck families in spring. It’s a Moody Sisters cottage and despite the gate, is very dreamy. I have a lot of great memories there.
Talking to a friend that lives in San Roque and the news is that a couple that are in the food business purchased the property where Mackenzie market was located. Rumor is they paid close to 5 million dollars and they plan to open a restaurant with lots of outdoor seating. I am shocked that there seems to be so many restaurants opening up in Santa Barbara in the near future. That location is perfect for an outdoor restaurant. Full bar.? Let’s hope so.
I couldn't find anything to confirm that, but the building was just bought (for $10.35 million) by MBB Santa Barbara LLC, which appears to be run by Michael Bollag.
Heard 102 Yanonali is becoming another brewery.
The Dior sponsorship is gross. I had truly hoped these type of vulgarities would never make it to Santa Barbara.
The Par Building in Solvang also houses storefront #2 for Carpinteria’s Heritage Home & Goods- and is damn near next door neighbors to the Vaquero Bar?
The sexual harassment case seems inappropriate for Sitelines.
Eastside Buddhist Temple!
Buddhist temple on East Montecito?

Nope, but that's a good guess.

The nugget
Thanks for the choco mousse tip- live in SYV, but find myself in dt SB once to twice a month- have enjoyed Via Maestra 42 and Metropolis Cafe of late- both above and beyond service coupled with delicious lunch options. Cheers
You’re spot on about the Montecito Wine Bistro...it’s a crying shame: formerly a great local hangout with interesting food, it now seems abandoned—lackluster if any greeting, amateur service when you can finally corral a server, mediocre cooking...alas, where is Pierre Lafond, a man of quality and integrity who would never tolerate this.
BTW, another little tip. Seems like the Hibachi on corner of State / Haley is having construction work done on it now. New hiring sign (I think?) up with old letter head for Something Fishy. Also thought Institution Ales new side patio was going to be open by June 15th but doesn’t look like it.
