Don’t call me Shirley
Christine & Christine, you look like the Girl Scouts in the bar scene in, "Airplane."
I'm still confused if the Sama Sama charge is in lieu of gratuity? Can someone clarify?
I have a connection to Battaglia. Locals can rest assured there is no theme park in the works.
I honestly love that tattoo.
You’re at the wrong table- it looks & sounds scrumptious to this diner
The buyer is RSM Resort LLC, which leads to an address in Irvine that is also linked to Battaglia Inc., a developer of theme parks. But Battaglia Inc.'s website is copyright 2004, so I wouldn't assume that a theme park is imminent—instead, this is likely the same owner with golf-related plans. And no news about Hidden Oaks.
San Marcos Golf Course was sold to the company that does amusement parks correct? Any idea when Hidden Oaks golf course is opening up and if it will still be open to the public?
"Pictured below: pork cannelloni with béchamel and manchego." That does not look interesting or even appetizing.
I agree on the plastic utensils/to-go containers. I carry my own bamboo utensils, keep several bundles in my tote. I guess it’s cost effective to do plastic than pay for someone to wash dishes.
Mandatory service fees are a cash grab, especially when it's going to the restaurant and not the employees. That means it's a disguised 18% increase in menu costs. The trend to advertise a price but then tack on fees at checkout is a con job that needs to stop. Increase the menu prices by 18%, don't make me decide if I need to add another 20% (tip) to my bill on top of the mandatory 18%. The 38% (or more) that is now expected makes me do mental math gymnastics to understand the affordability of an establishment and creates a very negative experience at the end of the meal. What's next? Fork and knife fees? Napkin fees? Standing is free, chairs are $2? Charge a fair price up front and don't make me subsidize your operations.
Isn't this State St. And Gueterrez where Esau's was

As someone who was in the service industry for 30+ years and now has a kid in the industry, I do not support this 18% service charge. I too will not go to Sama Sama.
It would be really sad if she wasn't kidding.
The Tully. 1431 San Andres St.
This is the Tully on San Andres next to Revolver Pizza.
I totally agree instead of charging the 18% for a higher wage for employees. Go ahead and raise your prices. Let the Restaurant go Waze decide if they want to pay the price.
Robertson has a great Instagram under the name of Drawbertson and has become a well known artist. I started following him years ago and he seems to move every few years. Very busy!
I can’t tell if you’re kidding?
I agree! I'd love to see the Upper Village become like the Americana at Brand. Build around the church and Restoration Hardware at the firehouse, but build on all four blocks of East Valley and San Ysidro.
that first photo looks like our old business goleta lumber 1967
Christine, I work across the street from the train station in the other direction and I can confirm your impressions. But I also live not to far away past West Beach and I know this area. When you see it every day it's not so bad. Erik could have posted it this way, "A new youth hostel has opened on the edge of West Beach, between the Moxi interactive museum and some of the most expensive condos in West Beach!"
I don't understand the push against chain stores or restaurants when we've have so many empty store/restaurant fronts of late and we should be welcoming more. Often chains (like Honor Bar and Reunion) have figured out the recipe for success and are wildly popular for good reason. Chains can also get bulk discounts and be more efficient which may result in better pricing to consumers. I'm so glad Restoration Hardware is opting to stay in the area, now we only need a Nordstrom, Saks, Crate & Barrel, West Elm, etc.
I missed my 6:30am train to SD last Oct and had to wait 2 hrs for the next one- 2 hours of uncomfortable witness to hobo/transient/mentally ill people waking up, drinking pints of vodka, face scab picking, urinating losers. I sat in my locked car fretting for every Mom/Child combo that walked by- there is NO WAY I could recommend staying in that area. Disgusting
I won't be going to Sama Sama anymore. Extra "service charge" aka junk fees, aka "I'll rip you off because you're dumb enough to pay it". Get real
