Mattei’s Tavern in Los Olivos Is Being Taken Over by a World-Class Hotel Company

Exciting news from the Santa Ynez Valley: Mattei’s Tavern, the historic Los Olivos stagecoach stop closed since June of 2018, has been bought by Auberge Resorts Collection, the hotel company best known for Auberge du Soleil and Calistoga Ranch in Napa Valley, along with 17 other properties (and counting) around the world.

The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern, as the 67-room hotel will be called, is shooting to reopen in 2021. “Respecting the history of this landmark destination in the Santa Ynez Valley,” says the website, “the renovated Mattei’s Tavern will blend the simplicity of modern farmhouse design with the eclectic textures and patterns of nearby ranch life. A new culinary program that will celebrate the seasonal flavors of Los Olivos in varied experiences from a coffee bar porch to an open-air restaurant with a county fair energy. The new outdoor pool will feature a welcoming poolside bar, cabanas and firepits, and the signature spa.” According to the Santa Maria Times, “Santa Barbara–based architecture firm DMHA and AvroKO of San Francisco” are working together on the property.
