Improvements Are Underway at Parma Park

••• Press release: “Work is scheduled to begin this week to improve and expand the trail system” at Parma Park. “The Parma Park Sustainable Trails Project, led by the City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department, includes improvements to 4.1 miles of existing trails and the creation of 2.7 miles of new trails, including a half-mile reduced-grade loop that will allow users of mobility aids to enjoy the beauty of Parma Park. […] The first phase will focus on trail work in the western portion of the park. Trails in this portion of the park are expected to remain closed through the spring until work is complete. Phase two will focus on trail work in the eastern part of the park and is scheduled to begin in late fall. Habitat restoration will occur in select locations throughout the park once trail maintenance has been completed.” Photo by Marco Palombo.

••• Hearth Homes Interiors is unloading a bunch of staging decor at a warehouse sale this Saturday, April 15: you can expect “furniture, rugs, art, throw pillows, decor, kitchen items, and more.” It’s from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 5736 Thornwood Drive in Goleta. Cash or Venmo; all sales final.

••• The Dirty Dog Wash & Goods is opening in the former TJ Paws space at the corner of De La Vina and Constance.

••• Opening this Friday at the Center Stage Theater: Out of the Box Theatre Company‘s production of the musical Once, which you may know better as a film: “This folk musical tells the story of an Irish street musician and Czech immigrant meeting on the streets of Dublin, and how this chance encounter changes both of their lives over the course of one week. […] The show will run April 14-23 (Friday through Sunday) at Center Stage and feature an ensemble of local actors and musicians playing thirteen roles and 28 instruments.” Ticket info is here.

••• Ojai’s Porch Gallery has closed. The building recently sold for $3.2 million.

••• The Santa Barbara Kite Festival is this Sunday, April 16, at Santa Barbara City College.

••• The county has a survey “to help enhance emergency response plans and preparedness in local areas. The purpose of the survey is to understand constraints and behavior during emergencies such as wildfires, floods, chemical spills, etc.” I was disappointed that there’s no opportunity to make a suggestion, because here’s mine: it would be great to have a more precise way to explain who should evacuate other than “along such-and-such creek,” because I’m sure that many of us have no idea what the various creeks are named.

••• Los Padres National Forest has posted a Figueroa Mountain wildflower update and driving tour (scroll down a bit). And thanks to everyone on Instagram who pointed out that my recent photo was actually of Grass Mountain. The photo below is from a few days later, when my husband went back and found that the flowers had improved dramatically.
