First Look at Rascal’s All-Vegan Menu

••• Rascal’s has opened for dinner service (5-9:30 p.m., closed Mondays) at 432 E. Haley: “We will be doing casual table service to switch it up in our new intimate space. No reservations, first come first serve. There is limited seating, so takeout will be available as well.” And apparently lunch and brunch service will start in coming weeks. I did my best to photograph the menu posted in the window.

••• Revolver is trying something new on April 10: a 10-course omakase dinner for $150. With space for just 10 diners, it sold out fast, so keep an eye on Instagram for the next one.

••• L. reports that Mollie Ahlstrand, most recently of Trattoria Mollie, is opening an Italian market/deli in Carpinteria; Restaurant Guy says it’s in the same strip mall as the Food Liaison and Rudy’s.

••• The Bagel Boiz are on a hiatus: “Don’t panic though, we’re not completely throwing in the towel. We just need some time to rethink how we do our bagel biz.” Which means you may want to make plans to head up to Solvang on Sunday (March 19), when Peasants Deli is selling bagels by James Sparks of Kings Carey Wines from 9 a.m. till sold out.

••• Noozhawk profiles Tamar: “Ask for the Deluxe, which is not on the menu and consists of falafel, chicken, tahini, zhoug, pickles and cabbage—all stuffed into a pita. It’s what [chef/owner Logan] Jones and his crew make for themselves.”

••• And the Independent profiles the Black Sheep: “Soon to roll out is an early dinner option geared towards those who are heading to the theater or a show, with a three-course tasting menu paired with wine for $45.” UPDATE: The Black Sheep says the Independent got it a bit wrong. “We have launched already our ‘apero’ menu (happy hour); three-course menu with options for $39 and 30% off all alcohol from 5-6 Wednesday-Sunday.”

••• Two pantry recommendations for you… First, I’m obsessed with Edmond Fallot‘s tarragon mustard—I use it in/on everything, including egg salad and vinaigrettes. My husband bought it for me, but he can’t remember where (Metropolous Fine Foods?); I picked up the jar picture below at French in Calabasas (and thanks to BW for recommending the shop). Second, Fly by Jing is better known for its Sichuan chili crisp, but I prefer the less spicy Zhong Sauce, which brings crazy umami to anything it touches (roasted cauliflower, hard-boiled eggs…). You can find it at the Daisy and, I think someone told me, Whole Foods.
