Everything Inside Botanik Is 50% Off

••• Botanik‘s big annual sale is on through tomorrow: everything inside the store is half off. The sale started yesterday, so don’t dawdle.

••• On January 5, the city’s Parks & Recreations Department will have a public meeting about “the future of recreation at Plaza Vera Cruz.” The details: “In 2021, we tested ways to keep the Lower East Side neighborhood safer by reducing park misuse and illegal activity at Plaza Vera Cruz. So far, regular recreation classes have been a great success. Our short-term contract with Santa Barbara Trapeze Co. ends soon, so we put out a request for proposals for a longer-term contract. We are looking for providers of structured recreational programming; proposals are due January 19, 2022. To register as a vendor or see the RFP, please visit [here]. Join us at the park for an informal talk about the vision for this historic neighborhood park. Whether you’re a neighbor or a recreation provider with questions about the RFP, we’d love to see you!”

••• I mentioned the other day that there’s a proposed residential development—”seven dwelling units in five buildings”—for 8 Ocean View Avenue, off Old Coast Highway. The plans have now been posted, including the drawings below.

••• From a Caltrans/Santa Barbara County Association of Governments press release: “A fully enhanced and signalized intersection at Santa Monica Road and Via Real is now open to the public. The intersection has been updated to ease significant daily traffic backups that often stretch half a mile during the morning commute. New pedestrian and bicycle connections improve safety and access with crosswalks, pedestrian-crossing signals, ADA accessible ramps, sidewalks, and bike lanes. […] It is the first of 10 parallel projects that will improve local roads and beach access connections as part of the Highway 101: Carpinteria to Santa Barbara project. […] The ten parallel projects include the Santa Monica Intersection, Santa Claus Lane Bikeway, Santa Claus Lane Streetscape, North Padaro Lane Coastal Access, Via Real Pedestrian and Bike Improvements, Summerland Coastal Access Improvements, San Ysidro Roundabout, Olive Mill Roundabout, Cabrillo Boulevard Railroad Undercrossing, and the Los Patos Roundabout.”

••• A bunch of upcoming events at the Arlington Theatre: Banff Mountain Film Festival (February 22-23), Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit (February 26), comedian Iliza Schlesinger (April 2), and Primus (June 21).

••• Opening December 31 at Sullivan Goss: Juxtaposed: The Art of Curation, “organized to help collectors, artists, and curators-in-training see some of the dynamics at play when deciding what works ought to show together—in this case, when just two pieces are juxtaposed.” Below: an untitled Sidney Gordin work from the 1950s.
