A Whole Lot of L.A. Is Coming Our Way

Commercial real estate agent Caitlin Hensel posted a list of the first wave of tenants announced at The Post, as the reinvented Las Aves complex across from the Andrée Clark Bird Refuge is being called. It’s heavy on L.A. imports….

···············

Jemma Montecito / Italian-American restaurant with siblings in Brentwood and Hollywood, as you already knew.

···············

Janessa Leoné / “An elevated accessories label based in Los Angeles. The brand creates sophisticated pieces with a focus on timeless, minimal designs.” Its other shop is in Platform, the Culver City development from the Post’s developer, Runyon.

···············

Shoppe Amber Interiors / “A home and lifestyle store created by Amber Lewis of Amber Interior Design.” The other locations are in Pacific Palisades, Calabasas, Newport Beach, and Larkspur.

···············

The Optimist / “A men’s lifestyle concept celebrating the pioneering and easy-going spirit of Los Angeles. With a focus on quality, fit and detail across price.” It’s also in Platform; and the founders are Runyon principals David Fishbein and Joey Miller.

···············

The Great / “A fully realized women’s wear collection” by Emily Current and Meritt Elliott. This would mark the brand’s seventh shop; other locations include West Hollywood, Venice, Studio City, and Newport Beach.

···············

Maygel Coronel / “Luxury swimwear designed for women and for life in the sun. Born in Cartagena, made in Colombia.” Maygel Coronel is the sole business not to have an L.A. outpost; its store are in Colombia and Houston.

···············

Teller / “Multi-label women’s store bringing together singular, independent brands from around the world.” The founder is Jamie Fishbein, who is married to Runyton’s David Fishbein; the brand has a shop at Platform.

···············

Velvet by Graham and Spencer / “Focusing on exceptional materials, impeccable details, and thoughtful fits, Velvet combines a timeless perspective with subtle sentiments that form an enduring signature style” for women and men.

···············

Save Khaki United / “Menswear and womenswear modern basics.” The company has two stores in L.A., as well as two in New York City.

···············

And most exciting for those of us who love eating more than shopping, a new restaurant from the founders of Loreto in L.A.’s Frogtown neighborhood.

These all look good to me. I don’t mind chains (or mini chains) since they are often more business savvy so more likely to survive vs. mom and pop operations. What we REALLY need is a good shoe store since it’s slim pickings around here, and of course there’s never enough restaurant options, especially Asian ones.

Perfect for the gateway of Montecito . Hopefully round about and landscaping around will make it look even nicer

VERY excited for Shoppe Amber Interiors to land in Montecito! And, as always, hoping there will be some creative vegan options at these new restaurants.

I actually have no issue with these shops. Great! I just hope they finish the roundabout and kinda mess of road construction before this all launches… as its gonna make it really hard to get excited about if there are delays/closures and just unfinished work.

Men’s clothing! What a godsend! Hopefully some of it is moderately affordable. Overall I’m really pleased with this. Fingers crossed it all comes together in a successful way.

Very unfortunate that no local brands, shops, restaurants are on the list.

In combination with all the other recent activity in the Montecito shop and restaurant scene, it feels like the LA tidal wave has arrived and the essence of the area is changing…hate to see it

More of the same. Amber Interiors looks like Jenni Kayne furniture. Nothing for the mature people who if you look around seem to dominate the town

It’s exceedingly dull. I was at the Calabasas shop a couple years ago and couldn’t find one thing to get excited about. I don’t get it. I’m not sure how the drab beige greige look has managed to hold on for so long.

CT,
Your observations are spot on. The LA creep has expanded. I understand that changes are inevitable, but sad nevertheless for this native son…

There’s a Westside LA vibe knocking on Montecito’s door with all it phony pretense.

Glad to see this area getting attention
Too bad State Street is now the red headed step-daughter .
Hopefully someday a ray of light will inspire our Council to take the binders off our historic center

Would really love to see some more reasonably priced (not cheap and poorly made – we have plenty of those in our town, mid range please – e.g.. Club Monaco ) clothing/shoes/accessories stores and for love of God please let’s not be afraid to get stores that sell clothing with color. Getting bored and very tired of bland colors schemes and their monochromatic looks.

Happy to see this area being reimagined. My question is WHEN is the proposed opening date?
