A Boutique Hotel Is Proposed for Downtown Carpinteria

I’m a little late to this, but it deserves attention anyway: a boutique hotel is proposed for downtown Carpinteria, and it could be the anchor destination the town needs. At Linden Avenue and 5th Street, The Surfliner Inn would have 40 rooms and nightly rates around $300, and as you can see from the handful of drawings, the style is classic California cottage. The developers—Andy Norris, Whitt Hollis, Mathew and Jim Taylor, and Jack and Jeff Theimer—are locals who insist that they and their architect, AB Design Studio, want to respect the town’s history, character, and charm. As is the way with change, some people object; you can show your support for the project by signing a petition or writing a letter to the city before November 30.
