••• Construction has started on the Las Positas and Modoc Roads Multiuse Pathway, a.k.a. the PoMoMuPa. It’s a “2.6 mile long, mulituse path for bicyclists, runners, and pedestrians separated from high-speed vehicle traffic along Las Positas and Modoc Roads. This Vision Zero project will start construction at Calle de los Amigos along Modoc Road and work towards Las Positas Road and down to the roundabout at Cliff Drive. The project will connect the beach, schools, parks, and commercial centers with the community along the Pacific Coastal and Crosstown Bike Routes.” It should be done in about 18 months.

••• The September 21 meeting of the city’s Architectural Board of Review includes an addition to Santa Barbara Airport: “Project entails installation of a 2,640 square-foot modular building for airline offices on the north side of the John ‘Jack’ T. Rickard Terminal inside the Airport Operations Area security fence. Installation includes new ramps, stairs, and exterior lighting.”
••• Unless I’m misunderstanding this, yet another cannabis nursery is being proposed for Carpinteria. This one is just under eight acres, and it’s right on the 101. From the county’s Planning and Development agenda for September 28:
Hearing on the request of Jay Higgins, agent for the operator (Emmawood B1, LLC.) to consider Case No. 19CDH-000000-00019 [application filed on April 29, 2019] a Coastal Development Permit with Hearing in compliance with Section 35-174.10.2 and Section 35-169 of Article II, the Coastal Zoning Ordinance, on property zoned AG-I-10 to allow approximately 7.9 acres of mixed-light and nursery cannabis cultivation, including ancillary cultivation activities (drying, bucking and temporary storage) within the existing, permitted greenhouse structures; and to find the proposed project is an activity within the scope of the Board of Supervisors-approved Cannabis Land Use Ordinance and Licensing Program Environmental Impact Report (PEIR) (17EIR-00000-00003). The PEIR adequately describes the activity for the purposes of CEQA. The application involves APN 001-080-042, located at 5888 Via Real, in the Carpinteria area, First Supervisorial District.
Emmawood B1, LLC is owned by Tristan Strauss. From his bio: “Tristan Strauss is the CEO and Co-Founder of Headwaters, a data-driven bulk cannabis supply company serving California creating an easier way to buy and sell cannabis. Headwaters has 10+ million square feet of cannabis cultivation through partnerships and their own flagship farms in Carpinteria and Humboldt. Together, they produce 100,000+ pounds of consistent quality cannabis available monthly of 40+ strains, multiples sizes, and grades.” If the project is approved, you can expect the skunk stink along that stretch of the 101 to get even worse.
