Siteline | Opening Date for Sweetaly Gelato

••• If this isn’t ice cream weather, I don’t know what is. Enter Sweetaly Gelato, opening Saturday, August 1, in Tondi Gelato’s former space (State Street between De La Guerra and Ortega).

••• According to this week’s city council agenda, State of Mind Cafe is likely to open at 918 State Street (between Carrillo and Canon Perdido, next to the SBIFF Film Center). It’s “designed for individuals with disabilities and special needs and feature things such as accessible furniture/floor plan, braille menus, customizable lighting per seating area, etc.”

••• The Independent ran a report on dinner at the Hilton Garden Inn Rooftop Bistro & Bar in Goleta, which was renovated last spring. I assume the meal was comped, but the paper doesn’t say.

••• From Crushcakes: “Beginning Monday, July 27, our Goleta Crushcakes will be operating primarily as a bakery only, serving coffee, pastries and our famous cupcakes. We will also be offering some grab-and-go items such as breakfast burritos, wraps, granola parfaits, and more. By making this change we will have the ability to make more cakes for weddings, events and catering. We will also be offering formal cake tastings with our wedding and event coordinator from this location. We will still be serving our full breakfast and lunch menu every day at our Santa Barbara store.”

••• I dragged my husband, Adam, to lunch at Pegaslice in Goleta, behind a 7-Eleven on Calle Real on the far side of Storke/Glen Annie Road. As you can see from the mural inside, the name is a play on Pegasus, not something you might do to a pizza you’re fond of, and the pizza is Roman-style, i.e., sold in rectangular slices. The menu says the slices are four-by-six inches, but there’s clearly some variability. We shared three slices—margherita, pepperoni, and veggie—and the pepperoni was my favorite. Better yet was the eggplant-and-mozzarella sandwich, made with pizza dough. (And the can of Cactus Cooler really took me back in time.) It was a fun outing as we sat outside and watched the people—ServiceMaster workers on a lunch break, kids on e-bikes of questionable street-legality, an office worker stopping by a salad, and so on—come and go.

••• On the way home, Adam wanted to stop at Nikka Market (he’s in a donburi phase), so I popped into Drover’s Doughnuts a few doors down in the Calle Real Shopping Center, which opened at the beginning of the year. I was able to resist the temptation of a post-pizza doughnut, but I did enjoy the wall of Post-Its and I took note of the breakfast sandwiches on the menu.
