••• The Shoreline Cafe on Leadbetter Beach appears to be for sale for $2.9 million; the listing cites retirement as the reason. Remember, just because a business is on the market doesn’t mean that it will sell—and even if it does, it may not change in any way.
••• The Angel Oak steakhouse at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara has closed. I hear that Chicago-based Maple Hospitality will be opening a new concept in the space.
••• The Ellwood is doing a “sneak peek soft opening” tonight through Saturday: “We will be releasing very limited February reservations throughout the week as we are working to perfect our service and food.” And reservations for March are available now.
••• Last time I was at Bar Lou for dinner, I kept thinking about how great it would be once the restaurant starts being open for lunch—that deck is so lovely—and it’s taking a step in that direction, introducing brunch service this weekend. Reservations are only available for parties of six or more. UPDATE: The restaurant sent over a new version without the price typo.
••• Bossie’s Kitchen is once again serving lunch, but only on weekends.
••• Rolld Ice Cream is opening at 819A State Street, in Paseo Nuevo, sometime this month.
••• Bibi Ji is trying something I have never heard of: “Support us while earning passive income in return: Purchase BIBI Small Business Bonds on SMBX. They start as low as $10 and investors will receive monthly payments at 11.5% interest over a five-year period.”
••• Mission City Sandwich Shop, in the former Sweetie’s ice cream shop on the Mesa, will open February 13. Here’s a first look at the menu. I can’t decide between the Boat & Hoes and the Surfer Rosa….

Tomato, avocado, cucumber is $240 at Bar Lou?? I hope that’s a typo.
I stopped reading there!
That would be $24 not $240!
Municipal Winemakers did a successful SMBX campaign last summer to partially fund their Ventura expansion. You can read more about it in Edible Santa Barbara:

Mission City looks yum and I like their branding.
Prices kinda suck though.
Fingers crossed that a local owner buys Shoreline Cafe. LOVE the fish tacos!
I am very curious about Bossie’s Kitchen. Several times a week we walk past as part of our regular walking routine. It is never open. I always think what a perfect location this would be for a cafe/bakery/ breakfast place (the fare from the late 1990’s restaurant at 129 E Anapamu comes to mind – I can’t remember the name of it from that time) .. We have had dinner once at Bossie’s (a couple years ago) after it came highly recommended, but the cuisine was too heavy for our tastes.
I think that north Milpas St needs a cafe/bakery/breakfast place. Top Hat across the street offers something a little different from what I’m thinking and it is always packed!
How does Bossie’s stay in business??
City Kitchen used to be at that location and they were my favorite breakfast restaurant. I still miss that place.
This location has changed hands so much- it was called something else!
The owner/chef was ill for some months so they were closed. They are open again at night and weekend lunch. All organic. Wonderful food!
Everything at Bossies is delicious and the baked goods are superb! A crucial addition to our food scene.
I’m sorry to hear that.
Absolutely LOVE Bossies! So good. So happy they are back! Can hardly wait to go get their yummy vegetarian plate and their cookies are Devine. ;-)
Mission City Sandwich Shop is absolutely amazing. Just went for their soft opening. Boats and Hoes hands down the best tuna salad sandwich I’ve ever had! Worth every penny, those ingredients are top notch and the flavors and textures are just flat out awesome. Go eat there!
You really like your work place!
Lol
