As an ex-SBUSD trustee, I'm happy to chime in on the property tax division between the elementary feeder districts and SB Unified. You can see what overall property taxes are collected and where they go every year at the auditor-controller's property tax highlights pdf link: https://www.countyofsb.org/316/Property-Tax. It doesn't include the formulas, though, and the elementary/secondary division is based on historical practices and old and new state school funding laws. It would probably take an archivist and accountant to get to the original whys. It was a little easier to see in our accounting before Santa Barbara became a unified district in 2011 instead of an elementary and secondary district governed by one board. At that time, the elementary districts received a greater percentage of the property taxes in a given district boundary--perhaps because they are historically K-8 districts even though they've never served students above 6th grade? I don't know. If you get an accommodating employee at the auditor-controller's office, they'll be able to tell you the percentage that goes to each district overall and then apply that formula to your home's property tax.
The sad truth, none of these vegan restaurants were very good. When Oliver's first opened it was great, and then steadily went down hill year after year until we stopped going. The best plant based food in Santa Barbara is at the Miramar resort. In my opinion Chef Massimo is the best plant based chef in California but very expensive. Would love if he opened a more casual vegan restaurant in town.
The latest images in the article I find confusing from prior presentations to the City and further confusing as the building layout is rotated near 180 degrees. The perspective view also seems to hide the second floor to the east on Yanonali. The prior siteline article from April 2023 was much easier to digest.
Nope, but thanks for guessing!

Wonderful post. Pictures appreciated too. Brought back memories of our Venice trip many moons ago. I too took a singular walk in the wee morning hours, enjoying the city to myself. Watching water deliveries, the solitude of the narrow streets, and the beauty of sunrise. Your post makes me want to go back. Thank you!

Are people who cross the border without any inclination to make it legal- actually worth getting upset over? Why bother coming if you are just gonna couch surf and hide? My mother became a citizen- does that make her a super hero, and those who don’t super losers? How can you call a place home for 20+ years yet not become a citizen? Times up for the back and forth it seems.
Such a shame about Judge For Yourself. We went after the owner/chef retired and they were very clearly struggling. I feel like it's difficult to get a no frills, consistently good breakfast in Santa Barbara. I just don't always want a bougie brunch. We can only go to Cajun so many times...
There are many people that come to America for safety. They don't have the luxury of waiting months or years to come over legally. They just don't have the option- they must 'break the law' to keep themselves and their families safe. Additionally, there were no borders before colonizers stole the land from native peoples.
I travel Europe 4-6 months every year. I couldn't wait to get out of Venice. The hoards of people made it miserable
As a former Santa Barbaran looking to get back home, I have been looking at houses for months. East Mesa looks great to me, basketball hoops and all - but people, STOP! Don't renovate, don't "update" . Those "luxury vinyl" floors, those glass kitched tiles, those Home Depot cabinets have stopped me cold. Declutter and clean up a bit, save yourself the time and the money, and aggravation. Offer your property "as is". You'll sell faster and save yourself time and money - and the buyer will appreciate the opportunity to do their own renovations.
Their address is Santa Barbara. Naming it Montecito is a better descriptor/locator and a smart business decision.
For lunch today I had a nice grilled chicken breast and some sauteed spinach..
Nice place to visit but wouldn't want to live there. New Fascist stopped the much needed clean up of the waters. Residents must live in tiny apartments above waters with raw sewerage from all buildings. Work at hotels as gondeliers for low wages as Italy's new rulers dictate now.

This is functionally correct. There is no way for the business to benefit in a tax sense without violating the law.
*except Trump. Yup just him. No one else can simply ignore the law because of convenience or for profit. Oh, what's this? https://apnews.com/article/biden-pardons-family-trump-white-hous-caee326c4723a4ba6d972f7daf750a0b And since you brought up the oligarchy: https://www.forbes.com/sites/dereksaul/2024/10/30/kamala-harris-has-more-billionaires-prominently-backing-her-than-trump-bezos-and-griffin-weigh-in-updated/ I think the useful idiot might be looking at you in the mirror.
This is such an unkind thing to do to a neighborhood- walk thru it and mock it? What is wrong with you?!You have way to much time on your hands.
Sorry to see the news from SBCVA- about omitting Lompoc from its media- how on earth will their media output not look ridiculous?
I despise the GOP and the Moron-in-Chief, but when it comes to this issue I am behind them. Seeing action when there has been none is a positive thing. It’s nice to see enforcement of immigration laws and some forceful pushback against the open flaunting of their existence. Not that I think the R's will do anything of the sort, but the right thing to do is to go after the people and the businesses who cheat by knowingly, selfishly hiring and exploiting people for profit and gain. While it's hard to see in today’s America, no one holds a right to profit, nor a right to simply ignore the law because of convenience. No one.* Enforce the laws against the profiteers and we'll see change. As always, incentives control outcomes. *except Trump. He’s given a free pass by the oligarchy. They needed a useful idiot to do their bidding and boy did they find a doozie/
Thanks, I updated the text.
Wrong information regarding sites, Art is correct.
You got your pictures mixed up. The picture above is the Ladera Campus
Never going to stop correcting the misconception that The Post is in Montecito. It is not literally nor is it figuratively, try as they might to position it that way. As someone born and raised in Montecito, the freeway is the divide. The Post belongs squarely to Santa Barbara, along with the bird refuge, the Zoo, and the East Beach volleyball courts. Santa Barbara is allowed to have nice things too! And for the record I think Runyon is doing a fantastic job with it. Thank you for tolerating this asinine post (pun intended?)
Erewhon needs to be in a location with parking (visit the one in Calabasas to understand) and I am just not sure the Post is a big enough spot or is really ideal traffic-wise. I'd love to see it in place of Pavillions (what a let-down that Vons is) or where the failed development on the corner of State and Gutierrez downtown (again parking might be a real problem) or where Sprouts is on Milpas.
