Santa Barbara Airport bus stop.
Thank you for bringing this up, Dan! I hope it will be preserved. That sign is great. The city is so misguided in its disdain for neon. It's a beautiful and historic form of signage!
Afraid not….
Old MTD stop on APS near Lasuen Rd
Isn’t there one important and iconic space obviously missing from this tour?
The sign is wonderful. I'll check with the construction team....
Thanks! But I'm actually tough to walk with—I'm highly distractible.
Hi Erik, there’s an incredibly charming, vintage neon sign for the “Four Seasons Biltmore” located near the intersection of Olive Mill and Jameson Lane. I don’t think the sign is currently operational and I’m wondering with all the uncertainty around the Four Seasons itself if the sign is outright abandoned at this point. The location of the slender time warp appears to be at the epicenter of the pending roundabout work. Are you aware of the sign - and if perhaps there are plans afoot to preserve, restore and/or relocate it? If there’s some kind of volunteer effort percolating around it’s rescue I’d be happy to donate my own time and efforts.
I want to go on a walking tour with you — you are FUN!
Well done, Erik. Your "I'm new here, but I'm eager to explore and learn" attitude is so refreshing. Yes, you missed quite a few nuances, but wandering around a 250 yr old chunk of Santa Barbara, that is to be expected. There have been at least eight generations of SB history encased in those several blocks of land, and those adobe, brick and craftsman walls have much to say....but the whispers of SB grow faint unless someone amplifies them as you have.
Thank you, from an ex-pat SB-er, who leaned in to your fresh presentation of some cherished venues.
Nope, but thanks for guessing!
“create a total of 34 bike parking spaces. There currently are 11 spaces”
Because owners of electric Porsche/Audi/BMW vehicles ride their bikes to the service department? What insanity is this? The location already provides bike parking and storage for employees; this new parking is for customers.
SB Pier
Aloha Center update would be appreciated!
Thank you for the fabulous tour of the Presidio district. Looking forward to following your footsteps one day soon.
I couldn't agree more, although I wouldn't be surprised if many Casa Dorinda folks are more comfortable with the stop sign.
Hot Springs/Olive Mill triangle… it is nice to see this garden come together, but I alway scratch my head why the four way stop sign is necessary there? With all the space now available a little roundabout would do well there in front of Casa Dorinda. Is it that difficult to replace some stop signs for a little roundabout to keep traffic moving calmly?
Kelly Brown is fried. How can you actually believe what he says?
Any updates on We Want the Funk, new Seven Bar location, or Aloha Center opening?
Yeah in my opinion their complaints carry little weight. Get salads there every once in awhile but entire place needed an update.
The Westside, please. A great place to walk. Santa Barbara’s quiet forgotten neighborhood. Our house was built in the 1860s and there’s a Victorian farmhouse on nearly every block. The old timers still living in the neighborhood can tell you lots if history.
How come the other restaurants on that same block as Natural cafe are always packed, but Natural Cafe is a ghost town? Do the skateboarders magically not affect them? Or is it because Natural Cafe serves boring cafeteria food and that location looks like it hasn’t been dusted or painted since the 70’s?
Yes, he is! I love our unique to SB signs. Many thanks to your hubby.
You’re so right, LD! Thank you for the reminder.
Ballard Inn is where all the kids used to take their prom dates, in the 80’s. It was fancy, back then, lol.
