Boy, the architect for 1922 de la Vina really messed up the perspective in that rendering. The vanishing lines for the photo don’t match the vanishing lines for the drawing. Looks like the drawn in building is falling over backwards.
Drove two hours to see Mira Monte and was prepared to make an offer (on Tuesday 5/22, when agent said they were reviewing). My offer would have been over $2MM non contingent cash. I know of at least two other buyers who were prepared with offers well above $2MM. Very confused why less was accepted so prematurely.
Mira Monte had a horde of agents and buyers at the open house and pended on Thursday!
I like the Santa Barbara Med look. Granted, some of the architects are getting lazy and going for copy-cat structures, but I think Jeff Shelton has proven that it is possible to push the envelope and serve up something inventive. The alternative is the mish mash of generic structures that plague most American cities. Do we really want SB to look like Ventura or Oxnard?
Santa Barbara needs market rate (not rent controlled) housing for moderate income residents. Not a single one of the 1800+ units shown fulfills that need. Every one of those projects make the housing imbalance worse. The only hope for improvement is Builder’s Remedy projects.
Come on architecture review board. Stand proud and firm! We have a charming city. Theses buildings will set the standard of the beginnings of what’s acceptable and an ulgy town! Demand more!
100% agree with you.
This might be one of the silliest and most insecure comments I’ve ever read. Well done!
800 Presido Avenue
Santa Maria Chik busy as ever- passed a week ago at lunch- 4 cars wide and stacked! Nicest order takers, polite staff- great fried chicken.
According to some studies, eating a vegan diet can put you at reduced risk for some common diseases and illnesses, such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. With all the meat you must eat, shocked you are even alive to see Montecito prices over $1000/sqft.
Personally, I will be eating at the Eleven Madison Park pop up for lunch and dinner both days. Chef Humm has transformed what it means to eat. His taste buds are far more complex than your tainted red meat eating ‘buds. He has been dubbed the Swiss Army knife due to his skills for cutting up plants and transforming them into life altering masterpieces. Since you likely can’t afford the hefty price tag, I’d be happy to have you as my guest for the pop-up. Let’s meet on the Great Miramar Lawn at say 7pm on July 1st?
It looks like it is only coming for 2 days…
Wow…first of all, could they have chose a worse restaurant to come here lol. Honestly, it got horrific review from Pete Wells and the last time it has any popularity prices in Montecito were less than $1,000/foot. Bring me Marea, TFL, or even a McNalley spot….but a vegan spot stuck in the past….and let’s be serious, no one in New York wakes up and says “man I wish I could eat at Carusos tonight”
Where and how can I get tickets for late June???
So have I, but I can’t get to the source.
Just sold for 1.095 in Painted Cave, 4825 Rim Rd. Incredible views of the islands and Santa Barbara. So inexpensive because most people don’t wanna live up there. The realtor grabbed the first offer. A total giveaway price. House was turnkey. No work needed - impeccably maintained by the same family who built it 60 years ago.
I'm all for housing, but good lord can we get something other than this generic Mediterranean look? I'm not blaming the developers here, it's the city that has decided that this should be the default look for SB, and so the developers are just serving up what they know can get approved from an aesthetics point of view. It's gotten totally out of hand, and downtown especially is starting to get some weird theme park vibes.
Can you make us a choclo de maiz por favor?
I’ve heard rumors that the current management at Bellosguardo is under investigation. Is there any truth to this?
After a career in this business, there is a general rule that small airports must keep costs low. That is all they have to offer carriers whose profit on short hops and volume of originating traffic is slim. One gate at LAX or SFO boards more passengers in a day than the entire terminal @ SBA does in a week, or month. An overbuilt terminal increased costs. We may have gone a bit overboard on it. Two stories for a tiny tarmac and small airplanes.
Having been in the airline biz for 35 years you’d be surprised sometimes how routes aren’t extensively researched. Sometimes it’s a reasonableness/dartboard approach. This one was set up to catch European flights both ways from ORD. It always was going to be summertime seasonal. It obviously didn’t meet United’s expectations. It always amazes me which routes stick and which don’t. I had a friend who was an executive at American. He’s since passed away but he always fought for more service here. Surprisingly, the numbers rarely worked out. The cost of the new airport and proximity to LAX didn’t work in our favor.
SOHO House would be rad
What did you expect? It's private property. And why should he care how you refer to it? He's just a working stiff. If you have valid accusations of sexual abuse (and there are certainly many), bring them to those responsible and/or to law enforcement.
Owned by a private, tax exempt foundation controlled by the notoriously private Sperling family - owners of Phoenix University, Apollo Global Management among other clever tax shelters.....
I am so surprised United didn't bring them back. Flight times weren't great but the convenience was awesome. I wonder if it was due to lack of pilots?
