There's a legend about a stash of unclaimed gold buried right there. Don't know if that's so true, but it goes nicely with the fact I have run into multiple friends and strangers alike who are happy to share about how haunted that section of the parking lot and the fountained courtyard behind it are! I find only charm in stories like these — but I wonder if anyone knows where all this folklore comes from — and why this seemingly ignored spot has so many stories?

Could not agree more, Penelope! Clarke's is great — and they do a lobster roll right. (Among other great things). I think this will be a wonderful additional to Coast Village!
Noooooo!! The fountain is beautiful!!
Why don't the developers understand that we need those services? There are many medical offices they're that can't just relocate for more clothing stores that nobody cares about.
I really hope they make the decision to make these native gardens and replace eucalyptus with oaks and other native trees. It would be a huge mistake to continue with olive trees and lavender hedgerows.
Don't worry Lou your virtue is intact and you'll still be able to find an affordable Gardner...
Move to South Dakota
You’ll never find it
I've always felt a bit sorry for the birds during fireworks...
It is the perfect description of the reaction of all of us when change happens in Montecito. We "clutch our pearls" and say "EEEEK"!!!!!
I am so looking forward to Clarke's! I checked the menu, and FINALLY someone has the right bun for a lobster roll! They need to have raw sides so they can be toasted on the griddle with butter. not a double sided hot dog bun like all the other places that serve Lobster Rolls. All of them have the wrong bun.. Good grief! Go to Maine or anywhere back east and check the lobster roll buns! Yippee!
You won’t see any posts about affordable housing in Montecito!

Did not see any mention of affordable housing...
Great list!
I’m thrilled Biltmore is reopening Nothing can compare to it!!!!!!!
Beautiful setting in Toro, but I’m with you on sandwich question — the museum like design of some ultra wealthy homes always baffles me. Homes are best as comfortable places to live for yourself, not starkly minimalist places to present to others.
“Pearls got clutched.” ????
Alternates to fireworks … gets my vote.
Dan, that sounds enchanting!
Thanks so much for the write up on Dang Burger in Carpinteria! We went yesterday: the vegetarian burger was delicious and my husband had the double. I only wish they had a turkey burger alternative! A space was small, staff (gentleman at the register) was so polite and super clean and efficient. Any other Carp recs? Too many craft beer and pizza places: Zookers is our go to: food outstanding although physically not quaint (at all!)

This looks like the bell in the parking lot on Santa Barbara street between Canon Perdido and de la Guerra.
I've always liked fireworks even though my cat freaks out, being we live a few blocks from the harbor. But in the last month I've been watching the reports from Gaza of the nighttime rockets, flares, and ground explosions. I started think that I don't really need to see fireworks following the Parade of Lights. And I don't want to be a Dano Downer so I have an alternative. Hot air balloons doing a Night Glow. Imagine many balloons along the shoreline at West beach. They don't take off, they just glow each time the operator hits the gas. It would be low impact to local pets and beautiful to anyone with a view of the harbor. Check out 2023 Special Shapes Golwdeo @ You Tube site Dat Le Official.
At least it was readable which it no longer is
I just spent some time over at SB Current. We only moved here four years ago so I'm not familiar with Jim Buckley, but I like hearing from all sides and consider myself to have a "common-sense bent" so I was curious to see what he had to say. If the initial articles (and comments from readers) are any indication, I probably won't be going back. Just another grievance-riddled right-wing echo chamber. The column "Saving the Vote" was particularly cringeworthy - it reads like it was plagiarized from Tucker Carlson.
