A New Vegan Market Is Opening in Montecito

••• Life’s Alternate Route has the scoop on PLNT PWRD MRKT, opening next month in the Coast Village Road strip mall home to Starbucks and Occhiali. It’s “a neighborhood retail market with packaged goods, drinks, and grab-and-go items—all of which will be 100% vegan,” and the owners are Santa Barbara residents Kami and Tim Morton-Smith. I took the photo below through the window.

••• ‘Tis the season: Aperitivo has panettone, but not that many, so hustle.

••• It now appears that the Corazón Cocina spinoff coming to the Little Alex’s space Public Market will be called Little Heart Cafecito, serving “coffee, breakfast tacos & burritos.” I wonder how Caffe Luxxe and Merci feel about more coffee at the Montecito Country Mart…. UPDATE: Thanks to Corazón Cocina pastry chef Eileen Foster Randall for the correction. So that makes three Corazón spinoffs in the works: Del Corazón (formerly Corazón Guisados) on E. Victoria Street; Little Heart Cafecito in the Public Market, and the rumored-but-never-confirmed fast-casual restaurant in the Little Alex’s space at the Montecito Country Mart.

••• “A new 600-seat music venue, geared toward attracting new and veteran artists, is set to debut in March 2022 on the site of a former bowling alley in midtown Ventura,” reports the Ventura County Star. And 805 Foodie says that Ruff House Barbecue will be part of the project, called the Ventura Music Hall.

••• Handlebar has finally broken through to the space next door on E. Canon Perdido. No word yet on exactly what the plan is.

••• The Independent profiled vegan-meal-delivery company Simple Feast, which is now serving Santa Barbara.

••• Italian dessert shop Zio & Sweet has soft-opened in Paseo Nuevo, with a grand opening set for this Friday.

••• “Wanted to see if you’ve heard anything about the 805 Hazy & Deli on Santa Barbara Street,” asked K. “Looked like there’s mischief afoot.” I don’t know about mischief, but I’ve seen activity there lately; when I just went by to check it out, there was no one around and the inside looks the same as it has for months. And there’s no new liquor-license application. Anyone know anything?

Good morning, a correction for you… Little Heart Cafecito will be opening in the space to the right of Corazon Cocina in the Public Market. Cafecito will be serving Mexican coffees, breakfast burritos and tacos and I will be expanding Corazon’s dessert menu with more sweets and desserts available next door. Thank you!
