If we want Santa Barbara to have wonderful independent shops, we need to support them. So this holiday season—and year-round, really—let’s make an effort to spend our money here. I’ve done some advance work, picking out possible gift items at Folly, The Eddy, and Domecíl, with more shops to come. And of course there’s far more at these stores—and all over town!—than whatever catches my eye.
First up, Folly in Arlington Court:
Candles that look—but don’t smell—like tinned fish ($26).
···············
John Derian jigsaw puzzles ($20): Who would’ve guessed that an empire could be built on decoupage?
···············
Rough-hewn dog ornaments ($10 each, but you should really buy them all and line them up, exactly like this).
···············
As if being a little metal frog prince wasn’t enough, it’s also a bottle opener ($28).
···············
Inscrutable throw pillow from Skippy Cotton ($110).
···············
Who among us couldn’t use a Token of Escapism ($18) these days?
··························
And now, The Eddy:
Dumpling candles ($19) that might be too cute to burn.
···············
Patatas Nana matchstick potato chips ($8) sure beat an orange or a candy cane in the stocking.
···············
Sabre Paris tart server ($40), so you don’t butcher beautiful baked goods. (P.S. Bought one for myself.)
···············
Legitimize daily chocolate intake with a Qantu advent calendar ($53).
···············
Zippy potholders ($24), because why not?
···············
Celebrate the year of yuzu with candied fruit peel ($5.50).
··························
And finally, Domecíl in Victoria Court:
Très chic hamper basket ($72).
···············
Riflessi belts with brass buckles rich with patina ($285).
···············
Whittard tea sampler ($30). Pinkies up!
···············
Fun socks = fun times ($26), and they’re made from recycled wool.
···············
“12 Days of Christmas” garland ($25) that doubles as a cheat sheet for the lyrics.
···············
Nose play never gets old ($5).
···············
Teach your children well, even—or maybe especially—when it comes to poker ($95).
················
