Reopening Date for Three Highway 101 Ramps

••• Freda Salvador—”modern, artisanal footwear designed in California and hand-crafted in family factories”—has opened at The Post. Photos by Alexa Vitug.

••• According to the latest Highway 101 construction update, three Highway 101 on-/off-ramps are set to reopen on the night of June 13: the southbound on-ramps at Olive Mill Road and Posilipo Lane (San Ysidro Road), and the southbound off-ramp at Olive Mill Road. There will be “new traffic patterns in the area and a temporary stop sign at the intersection of Olive Mill and Spring Road.”

••• A new shop has opened at 890 Linden Avenue in Carpinteria: Skyhop, “a fresh coastal space rooted in community, connection, creativity, and thoughtful goods. Supporting local and abroad artisans, organic brands, and inspired living.” Judging from the photos online, it’s mostly apparel.

••• “What’s under construction on Milpas Street, near the south side of Highway 101?” asks R. That’s 926 Hutash Street (seen below from near the Tri-County Produce parking lot), and believe it or not, it’s going to be a three-story Marriott Tribute Hotel with 105 rooms and “rooftop amenities.” Who wouldn’t want to be cradled in a freeway off-ramp with train tracks as a neighbor?

••• Rubenstein Chan Contemporary Art announced that its brick-and-mortar space in Carpinteria is closing.

••• The former Open Air Bicycles space at 135 E. Carrillo Street (at Santa Barbara) is now home to Mission Performance SB, a training center for young athletes that had previously been located at The Base in the Funk Zone.

••• On June 17, “The City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department will host an open house for community members to learn more about a project designed to celebrate and honor Chumash culture and history at Ambassador Park.” It’s that palm-lined strip of lawn off West Beach. “The park site was selected due to its longstanding significance to the Chumash community, including its connection to the historic Chumash village of Syuxtun and its relationship to the surrounding coastal landscape that has supported Chumash life for thousands of years.” The good news is that the new design for the park (below) is much a bit simpler than the one previously featured here.

••• A notice for construction bids for the Ortega Hill–N. Jameson Lane bike connection ran in a local paper. Curious how the path will work, I reached out to the county’s Public Works department, which sent this graphic. The new bike path is in yellow, and there will be a sidewalk, too. It’s a helpful addition, I’m sure, but as someone who occasionally bikes down San Leandro Lane to Sheffield, I was hoping for a better approach from the north.

Choose your poison: Marriott rates for a freeway/train adjacent room or $2400 a night for a train adjacent room at the Miramar

The train is not adjacent to the Miramar. It runs through the hotel!

Okay, maybe that is adjacent, but…..
