Wow you need to take a breather
They left town years ago. I did a Google search and there is an excellent article from Noozhawk by Josh Molina. Sorry Mayor Rowse, but Randy and others pretty much pushed out all food trucks during those years, about ten years ago. Really sad because the Burger Bus had an amazing product. Never once did I get one that wasn't delicious.

Where is the Burger Bus?
I'm looking forward to the new Gracie restaurant opening. I was one of the fans of the changes made to the Breakwater menu by Dudley. Best eggs CA/Benedict I've ever had. And speaking of Harbor dining my favorite cheeseburger for a long time was the Brophy Burger. That changed when the Burger Bus appeared. . . at first I couldn't believe I was paying $7.50 for a burger, just the burger. But it was so good, that jalapeno jelly! The Habit, under the original ownership was awesome but that has now slip slided away. I was at Brophy's a few months ago and ordered the cheeseburger. Happy to report it was great. It's back to being my favorite.
Agree! That was a ridiculous comment.
“Let your kids play farmworkers for a day! It’s a taste of what life will be like when there’s no one left to do it.” Can’t decide if you are a moron or drunk for posting this- are you really saying you can’t pick yourself a basket of apricots from a distillery u-pick? Kids now need to pretend to be a “illegal immigrant” to enjoy a natural grown treat- or to actually help out in the garden alongside their parents/family/neighborhood? Or are you suggesting a farm tour where we watch the hired illegals pick while we chug? UNBELIEVABLY CRINGEY BRO. Thanks for the ammo! 🤣
With all of the needs in this world, our country, and communities, we have Bloomberg Philanthropies spending a million dollars on painting intersections. Hmmmm And yes, I prefer plain concrete streets.
Did the U-pick apricots thing at Rock 12 Distillery near Lompoc last year, and I highly recommend! Started with a cocktail in the tasting room, then headed to the orchard clutching the expanding cord/net bag they included in the per-pound price. Such a deal! (I turned all my pickings into pies and preserves.)
We had Charles cater my 40th and everyone wanted his contact info. His burnt ends are some of the best BBQ I’ve had.
Never understood how grown-up people decide to wait 30 min or more in a line to get a burger… settled between the ocean and the mountains people prefer standing in a line… on a street… for a burger…
Agree with your review of Win-Dow. Too salty and the texture is just smush. The former Shalhoob burger in the Public Market was the same way. No lettuce or tomato and ultra soft damp and doughy bread. I guess the style is just not for me. Would be happy to pay extra for some lettuce. But major props to them for offering an actual veggie burger than isn’t miles away from the real thing (like Dang Burger and Third Window). The kale salad was very good but also too salty and oddly came with raisins not mentioned on the menu. Still grateful for an affordable place to get a decent kale salad but maybe dial down the salt a notch. I say this as someone who truly loves salt. There are a couple other offenders around town where the food is so salty I’m not sure how people are eating it. Revolver’s pizza is at the top of my list. I am someone known to drink pickle juice, salt everything, and put fish sauce on anything I can, so if I can’t handle the salt levels I don’t know how most people are tolerating it.
I love Peru - - and really loved Arequipa as well as the usual places (including the northern coast where the altitude isn't so hard to deal with!) Your hotel there looked fab - but I stayed here in 2013 and loved it - - the rates were very low then and they are now ($42 a night!) https://www.lacasademelgar.com/ Leslie
Has anyone else found parking at The Post a nightmare? My wife and I drove by there at 11:15am on a Friday morning and could not even get into the parking lot. Cars were backed up onto the street and even slowed the traffic on the roundabout. We decided to just drive past The Post and without stopping to check it out. Don't know if this was an unusual encounter; but give the number of shops and restaurants in the complex, it seems like find parking might become a constant issue.
Yes.. would cruise by and c Miltary Men in front of gate and also a couple of tanks..
Gregg Motors had a Rolls-Royce franchise back in the day out on Hope Ave and Bentleys use a lot of parts from modern Audis and Porsches so it's a logical move. Nissan is a troubled brand right now and dealers have been dropping the franchise left and right for a few years now, so it's surprising that little dealership in Goleta lasted this long.
The estate listed at the intersection of Toro Canyon and Foothill was infamous in the 1960’s for housing a small military. I believe a woman owned the property during this time and had lots of money and a cold war paranoia. Her private army had a small number of troops, numerous military vehicles on the grounds and two PT boats anchored off of Summerland. i am curious if other readers have recollections of this. looking forward hearing more stories
Regarding the asphalt art installation, the Bloomberg site states "Santa Barbara's busiest intersection, ... will be re-imagined for enhanced pedestrian and cyclist safety." As an avid cyclist and pedestrian user of this intersection I am in favor of enhanced safety. It's not clear to me how spending $100,000 on painting the asphalt will do this. Also as this is a very busy intersection it seems like the paint probably won't last too long.
When one reads the crime reports in Montecito, it seems this substation is a great idea, along with cameras and regular foot patrol near beaches etc.
It was a sad tragedy when I heard from a friend a year later about Lester Berman’s death. I worked as a Legal Secretary at his LA Law Firm in 1976-1980 and I remember his wife and his son (very young at the time). I also recall reading the news story about the incident and it took me by surprise and was sad for all involved.
Casa del Herrero is celebrating its centennial anniversary this year. Docent-led tours are on Wed and Sat. Self-guided tours on Tuesday - reservation required. https://www.casadelherrero.com/visit
I was at the dealer on Monday and Acura is moving to be with Honda in Goleta and they have added Bentley to Land Rover and Jaguar.
Great list. On the way to checking out Crafter’s Library, grab a coffee and donut at Hook & Press next door.
Thanks Anne - I did not know about Erin's book on public art - and of course the Siquieros mural "Portrait of Mexico" at SB Museum of Art is a stunner as well.
Great article Erik, thank you. And Leslie is correct wonderful murals and public art in our community. Check out the late Erin Graffy's book, Old Spanish Days: Santa Barbara History Through Public Art. This beautiful book offers a self guided walking tour of all the amazing public art all around Santa Barbara. The Samuel Armstrong mural on the front of the Arlington Theatre, the mural paintings in the El Paseo Restaurant. It is a treasure, and your visitors will love it.
