The former owners of Little Kitchen opened Rodeo Room in the Funk Zone with nibbles and cocktails.
Love your newsletter and the writing style—a breath of fresh air amidst the all the puffery of other online publications.
I don't have any issue with the credit-card fee being passed on to consumers, but I don't think a note on the menu is enough—it's too late at that point, because you either have the cash on you or you don't. In the case of Rory's, and this is just my opinion, I think it should be announced more frequently and more prominently: on the online menu, above the fold on the Resy page, and in the email that confirms the reservation. Even then, as I already wrote, why not raise the prices a hair and offer a discount to anyone who pays cash?
The new multi-use paths are designed for walkers, runners, ebikes (if they qualify) as well as kids on bikes, bike commuters and serious cyclists. It’s important to build the infrastructure for alternate transportation, especially as our roads become over crowded with cars and gas prices continue to rise.
I go out to eat 3-4 times a week and I talk to restaurant, managers and owners and more often than not hear just how difficult it is to keep their margins in line. I personally would not mind if a restaurant is going to add a 3% credit card fee to my bill. All they are doing is actually passing on the charge that the credit card company charges the restaurant for processing that credit card. Specially if it’s posted on their menu and make you aware before you pay. Erik I am interested in hearing your opinion on this ?
I couldn't begin to tell who you might have a total accounting, as some of these are overseen by the city and others by the county. And the money comes from many sources (local, state, federal...). The theory is presumably that the more people ride bikes, the less they drive cars.
I am very curious about the total cost of all these bicycle pathways, tunnels, bridges being built. I’m sure the serious bike rider membership may increase, slightly. Where can I find a total accounting. I believe it’s fun way to spend our tax dollars but I’m curious on why the elements of our society are being ignored? Walkers? E bikes, scooters? Handicapped people? I see in other cities where they build bike pathways next to the railroad tracks. I know how much the local governments live to chainsaw down trees, here are areas where it’s a straight shot.
Gelson's @ the Loreto Plaza
We’ve actually known about the San Roque location for a while but I appreciate your enthusiasm and have fun at the party
Erik, This is from a very reliable source. Your right same owners that own omni catering & teddys by the sea in Carpinteria are also planning on opening a second location in the (San Roque) area where the old Makenzie Market was located and that restaurant will be called “ Teddys on State “ this same group is opening a coffee house “ Brass Bird Coffee” I was told they will open the Carpinteria coffee house in about a month. I am going to try and tag along to their opening party . Carpinteria local out!
Regarding Ty Warner, this town really needs a shrink who specializes is money hoarding tendencies. I always imagine him in a house stuffed to the rafters with worthless things, steeped in paranoia and muttering to himself about how everyone’s out to get him. Get thee to a psychiatrist, sir!
He has many more enterprises apart from the SYR- Montecito Club and Sandpiper to name only a few in SB. After the fires/mudslides several years ago (and him compensating most employees for 6 months+ from each property effected) it seems likely he has insurance that will compensate him in the event of a closure for any reason now.
I’ll second your comments about Saint Bibiana!! It’s delicious!!
I called omni catering and left a message. If I hear anything I will let you know. Thank you
All I know is that it's the same owners as Omni Catering/Teddy's and that it's called Brass Bird Coffee Co. (instagram.com/brassbirdcoffee).
Hi Erik, can you give us any information about the new coffee house that’s opening in carpinteria where the catering company was? I pass by there and they are doing an extensive remodel and their new patio looks amazing. Any information would be appreciated. Thanx! Carp local out.
I thought the owners of the bead shop were retiring and moving out of SB. Did they sell the biz to new owners?
For having work as a CFO in a leading luxury hotel group, margin are not thin.
That pizza does look good! I was sad to see Little Kitchen close but that makes me a little less sad...
Severance pay under most management contract would be the owner responsibility. At 4S, only the GM’ is likely to be employed by the management company. But BG and AWBT could indeed afford it if they wanted to!
Let's not forget who owns the Four Seasons Hotel chain - Bill Gates and Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal...I think they can cough up the severance the Biltmore employees deserve!
So glad Beads will be back!
The property will reopen when Warner and the Four Seasons come to an agreement or their contract runs out and Warner brings on a new management company (or goes independent).
OK So WHEN will the Biltmore finally reopen?
As an employee of the property who is currently “on leave” during Ty’s selfish stand off- I am curious whether the public thinks Ty or FS is responsible for paying us our severance.
