Fun for a curious pocket of No-leta... or is this Santa Barbara? I dunno. But the off-ramp always seemed curious, but vital because of the county offices, dump, etc. I was hopeful you might also explore another curious neighborhood. The homes that seem to be only accessible by the traveling under the 154 on Piro Lane or Primavera Road. It almost feels gated — because of the underpass into the neighborhood — and there's a good mix of architecture. But I have always wondered if this neighborhood lost a battle with access due to the massive mobile home parks to the west of it? Anyone know its history?
I miss Arts & Letters. The food was delicious and such a great spot for lunch and dinner. Its always been a mystery to me why this can't be a local favorite?

Hi, Between here and LAX - Brent's Deli and Peddler's fork are awesome! I wanted to mention my fave place to stop on the way back from LAX. - Ollo in Malibu - consistently good and a great stopping place. It's in the Malibu Colony Plaza. https://www.ollomalibu.com/

I love that European market! Next time you go you have to try this really good sausage there, called Cabanossi (dry sausage with smoky flavor) - if you are into that. And their Wiener Wuerstchen are good too :))

If you look on Google maps, it looks like Bedda Mia might be moving to Montecito in the old Mollie’s location.

One consistency to Santa Barbara and especially State St is the steady flow of people who ply their trade and spend their savings on what is essentially, the same food concept that failed before. Every few months a new restauranteur arrives and tries. We are lucky there are so many poor business people who love cooking. It gives us locals a steady flow of new places to try and dishes to explore. Although it’s rather sad to see so many people sink their life savings into a business that is almost certainly guaranteed to fail. Do any of these people do diligence and research before they jump? I suppose not... Reminds me of the old joke: Want to make a small fortune in the restaurant business? Start with a large fortune.

Great restaurant list! I always want to stop at my favorite Moody Rooster on the way home from LA but sometimes timing doesn’t work, so nice to have some wonderful options.

Tri County Produce also consistently has watercress!
Adding two more of our favorites when on the road! Namaste Spiceland in Thousand Oaks: Indian grocery store with amazing vegetarian cafe and a huge selection of sweets. We love to grab takeout from here in the way home from LA when we don’t want to cook. Mouthful Eatery in Thousand Oaks: super funky Peruvian cafe with fun sandwiches and salads. Food is amazing and different than anything we get in SB.

When St Marks was on Alisal!
How about when Bud New ran it in the ‘60s and ‘70s You could still get a room for the night. The food was amazing
Light pouring thru the windows! I wish you could have seen Los Olivos when Mattei’s was operated by the Bensons, or Chef Maili Halme. Good luck Auberge- can’t wait for the dust to settle so the bright white paint can loose a bit of the shine.
Their hands might be tied by Hugette's will.
Celeste, I recently missed reading the book and I felt exactly the same way you do.
Was 361 Hot Springs always a vacant lot, or was there a house there before the Thomas Fire mudslides?
South Coast Deli has terrific salads that are quite reasonable and huge! order online to save time.
I miss places like Soup Plantation... I am glad to live near Natural Cafe though.
