Thanks for the update on the Dwight Murphy field. I think it's great that they make these improvements, it just concerns me that they actually don't take care of them and they fall into complete disarray after a few years. What starts out to be a beautiful idea turns into a homeless encampments and trash areas because no one actually takes care of them. These things project need ongoing maintenance that workers actually care about, and are there enough time to actually make a difference.
For example look at the beautiful East Beach grill area that they redid a few years ago, it is disgustingly dirty, and nothing is ever cleaned out. The sand is never cleaned their cigarette butts everywhere. The planters smell like urine there's just no quality to anything. The parking lot next to it is disgusting. I've never seen so much trash and sand and cigarette butts. you think they would pass a street sweeper through it every so often. low quality. If it was any other country, they do have someone there maintaining it full-time. The landscape has died back with bad decision making like 10" of gorilla hair around succulents. These type of places need in-house full-time staffing to maintain and not farmed out to some random landscape company that just pulls tiny 2 inch pieces of grass out of the soil all day long.
I'm even more curious to understand how much Budget the city has. I thought the city was sort of broke. When they just allocated 1/2 million for 'immigration aide', I thought they had no money left and it was a big controversy. I mean, if you got $30 million to fix apart, and then you're doing the Shell Park, how much Budget has gone into city improvement that they dont maintain.
The drilling will never take place. The lead times are way too long, and it will be canceled as soon as 2028. He should concentrate on his regime change in Venezuela as they have the largest proven reserves in the world.
Sounds like some people on here haven’t been to the brass bird in carpinteria. It’s probably one of the top 3 coffee houses/cafes I have ever been to.
Also If they are planning on expanding their menu. All I am going to say is wow!!! Can’t wait and I will be there on opening day I guarantee it.
I don't know why either. But consider this, a few weeks ago I got a super burrito from a small Mexican place on E. Haley. A burrito de pollo, with guac & sour cream. $17 dollars. . .. Seriously, one of the hole in the wall types on Haley street is charging that much.! Maybe it's too expensive to create those other items you guys like.
We were really looking forward to "Teddy's on State" and sorely disappointed that it will be another cafe. I'm sure it will be tasty and welcome, but San Roque already has so many cafes and sandwich spots.
Nope. When I have news, I run it.
Dissapointed that they are not bring Teddy's to State Street as a San Roque resident we have plenty of upscale coffee places in the neighborhood, and need more causal eatery places instead.
Same question 🙋🏻♀️
Any recent information concerning the restaurant that is to occupy the former Via Vai space in the Upper Village?
Wow, just... wow. You really need to take a break from the internet and social media.
My husband and I were big fans of Corazón Comedor prior to them changing the menu. We ate there on a regular basis, always looking forward to their fabulous food, especially their tamales! Their menu was unique with high quality entrees compared to other Mexican restaurants in town. Unfortunately, the last time we stopped in and saw everything had changed we didn't stay. We saw the menu is now mostly tacos offered and we can get tacos anywhere. they always were busy, not sure why they changed. We would surely return if the original came back.
A casual cafe is going to be a great fit for Upper State/San Roque! Looking forward to checking out Brass Bird!
I've already said something to the same effect elsewhere - but at the rate things are going, Santa Barbara will soon look like somewhere in Soviet era Eastern Europe, or Russia.? Joyless soul-sucking --
I heard from a reliable source that Anchor Rose is not closing, but a disgruntled employee has spread these rumors.
The architecture in the drawings evoke boring, uninspiring, and low effort. Sadly, nothing to see here, move on....
you are pathetic
Anne, hates her self for driving a Tesla, but can rationalize with reasoning and buys a sticker saying I bought this before Elon went crazy. Throws her green dog shit dog bag on the hiking trail thinking she'll pick it up on the way down forgets it.
Says no problem she'll make up for it some other way.
Keeps her dogs off the leash when she's hiking and when they jump on someone, she says they're just trying to play with them.
Lets her dogs bark in the yard all day not karen about neighbors.
We got you gurl but your highly misinformed. Self hates a tough one!
Heather get dressed gurl expensive dinner on me! Lets go
It's really incredible The city has so much money to keep on doing so many projects like plaza del mar and nothing goes on there, and what are they doing across from the zoo? My god it massive and the park was fine. Are they just remodeling it so the homeless can take it over again? I just don't understand the city. But if they can align everything up to get all the construction going at the same time for all the high-rises on Milpas, we will be golden.
Community: "If we are going to have more development, make it appropriate."
Developers: "Take this slop."
We were hoping that the Mackenzie market was going to be a second Teddys by the sea as first reported. I wonder why the owners changed their minds. Teddys is the reason why I go to carpinteria. I am very disappointed.
I agree with you, Paul. I propose we go back to the basics & return Council Member Compensation to a monthly stipend emphasizing public service over lifelong political careers.
Prior to 2004, council members received a modest monthly stipend reflecting the part-time, public service nature of their roles—a model that echoed the historical American tradition of citizen-legislators serving without lavish remuneration.
The pre-2004 stipend system supported effective governance for decades. Proving that modest compensation fosters dedicated public servants without creating career incentivized politicians.
Fast forward to 2025, the city’s total annual budget is approximately $577 million, with personnel costs (including elected officials) of $124+ million spent on salaries & benefits annually. $124+ million is only for the City of Santa Barbara.
The County of SB annual payroll (including benefits & pensions) is close to 1 Billion per year! This is unsustainable.
Sounds like the couple that are opening at the old Mackenzie Market location have lots of experience. I can’t wait to see it when they open.
Didn’t Plaza Del Mar just get “improved” a year ago, or was that just the band shell?
We love the Folded Hills location on CVR. And we are sad about its closure. This is a family run, local business. The Busch family has a very strong work ethic & they are invested in our community. It’s not uncommon to visit their Folded Hills Winery and be greeted by Kim, Andy, or one of their son’s. They are wonderful hosts and responsible land stewards. We will miss them.
The Karen’s should get together for dinner. 🤓
