love the photos- we share the same idea of what is worthy of a capture
What a wonderful reminder of how extraordinary this place we call home is. Thank you for these walking adventures.
Hopefully they are revamping their service standards. Service has been very poor every time I’ve gone.
So let’s get this straight, Ty closes Coral Casino during pandemic. Then when restrictions ease up, still doesn’t open due to renovations. Then finally opens and blasts members with a $2,000 monthly dues increase? Wow, just wow. Many won’t care for obvious reasons but let’s take a look at people who have been members for many decades and can’t afford this increase. Screw them? Not everyone in Montecito nor Santa Barbara are bigilionaires. What a sad state, even if I could afford a membership, I wouldn’t join based on this pure greed, elitist play.
There is a great staircase you can take between Pedregosa/Loma down to Pedregosa/Grand.
Also the house at 1741 Prospect (I think that is the address) is a Greene & Greene home if you haven’t seen it before.
Milpas is Spanish for cornfields or small fields of corn, beans, and pumpkin. The Yellow things are supposed to signify corn -though not sure if it's the silks or the stalks. When I moved here from NYC 30 yrs ago -this was all over the local news - should they be there or not, blah blah blah...
Great photos. When I go to the Riviera movie theatre I walk from downtown and up the Sierra Street staircase. I love the view from the top railing.
This is the sign for Lily’s Nails on State Street.
Perhaps to avoid all the electric bikes going by at 30mph- I would hate to have one ram into someone while enjoying their outdoor dining without barricades
Maybe Ty Warner can use some of that money he is receiving from the increase in membership dues to pay his property taxes and finally pay out the 450 employees he has had on furlough for nearly 4 years. I do not feel bad for the members of the club getting hit with such a big increase in dues either. They live and play in one of the most elite zip codes in the world. You've gotta pay to play!!! Definitely rich people problems.
Initiation fee to Coral Casino around $300,000 too I believe
Oops, you’re right. I thought this was about new Corazon place in Montecito. I’ve lost track of the different restaurants going into the space on Anapuma. Such a great location but nothing seems to work there since Arts and letters closed down.
Think you might have the restaurants confused. Don’t think they have anything to do with Azul.
The good part of the gilding is they brought in Boarshead meat and cheeses. That’s an improvement in my book!
Someone at Corazon told me they would be opening “soon” and when I inquired about the menu she said it would be different. Disappointing because I would like to get some of my favorite items at a less hectic and noisy spot than the public market. Very happy the PM is doing well but it can get crazy there on the weekends.
I see La Antica Pizzeria wants some tables out front with an iron fence. I am very pro sidewalk seating, but I have a question. What's the deal in Santa Barbara with enclosing all the seating with a fence or wall? I've not seen that before. All over Europe they just put out some tables and start serving. In my opinion the fences and walls just add clutter and look very unwelcoming. Where did the fortress outdoor seating idea come from?
Please no more sidewalk eating spaces. State street already looks like a 12 block food court
As an RE appraiser, all I can see is the lack of safety railings, inside and out - lol!
No, and they don’t respond to inquiries.
Are there any updates about Azul Cocina?
They told me.
Where did you hear about Augies? Have they made any public announcement because I couldn’t find it. They are indeed reopening right? Hopefully just revamping the menu and not the spirits! (Also selfishly have a gift card I need to use)
Well, here we all are in the Bubble - it's amusing to see the back-and-forth between staunch defenders of the fair and balanced, and one particularly entitled opponent. But face it, we wake up and read this newsletter - where you get to see lines like: "HOT PROPERTY Last week’s sales: Former Glen Oaks carriage house for $18.5 million; Rincon five-bedroom off-market for $8.108 million".
Erewhon might fit in dandily here, so long as you're down to pay $50 for a New York strip? And I agree - the changes at the Montecito Von's are nothing much...
To Erik's point re renaming the Deli the Bistro...It is a clear case of gilding the deli.
