Exactly!!!
The city of SB should buy the news press building and put the police station there, it’s all ready to go, plenty of space to expand it, save all of us tax payers some money, but that probably makes to much sense, just like they should have put it at the old Sears building is or the the national gaurd building…
Helena Avenue Bakery's chocolate cherry babka is the best I've ever had!
Yep, you hit the nail on the head
They are their own worst enemy. "We are business friendly" - proceed to increase regulations on local business and require permits/approvals for everything. "We need to bring down the cost of housing" - proceeds to enact ordinances that make the cost of construction increase.
coffee shop is a great idea!
The city is out of compliance with a state mandate regarding affordable housing, so projects are able to skirt by certain zoning laws if they meet certain affordable housing targets. The city still has to approve them but has much less power in being able to do so.
It’s very unfortunate that the city makes it so difficult for local business to open.
Yeah think you’d get a lot of people using a coffee shop there.
It would be great if they put in a coffee shop on the pier. It’s such a great place to stroll (yes, even for locals!)
Hopefully, they'll get it right. Glad that it is not an out of town group like the Reunion Kitchens group of Orange County and their corporate generic take on the "All American Menu" that has made the wonderful Cabrillo Pavillion such an avoidable place. What's worse than a great old landmark place where you really want to be but where you really don't want to go?
Apparently I misremembered that....
When was the space at State Street and N. La Cumbre Road a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf?
Bossie’s Jelly Donuts are incredible!
too simple.
Who is approving all of the ridiculous projects? We need to find out and vote them out of office. I am thoroughly disgusted with my hometown of 60 years!!
Always nice to see the rules apply to billionaires on occasion...
Hi Margo, Yes, it is a proposed 6 story apartment (?) building with underground parking actually on Grand Ave. I can tell you more if you want to call me.
Dear Uptown Lounge Owners,
My Samarkand neighborhood above the park has had a lovely respite from your loud music until 1 am. and hearing drunk people discuss who will drive. We have been able to sleep with our windows open since you closed. In kindness, we ask that you please understand how much your choices affect our lives. We wanted to move but it wasn't possible. Thank you.
Bossie’s, Eller's and Hook & Press all have sufganiyot (jelly donuts!!)
Mb,
I am wondering as to how the neighborhood is better after Uptown closed. Was the music and outdoor seating too noisy?
Agreed, along with maybe Casa Seville on Chapala
That Micheltorena bypass on Castillo seems to be going the opposite direction of traffic on that block. And I still see way more bikes on Micheltorena than in any of those new designated bike areas. Very poorly planned out. Just like what they did on Gillespie, that no one seems to use because that street is so far back. It is all very confusing, especially for cars
I will miss Stella Mare for so many reasons (food, service, decor, consistency), but the most important: it’s a quiet restaurant where I can actually have a conversation without yelling. Is it the last ‘adult’ restaurant in town? The feel in some of the smaller rooms are not unlike the old Casa de Sevilla, where quietude, tradition and extraordinary chile con queso appetizers ruled. Is anyone here old enough to remember Talk of the Town? Also a great spot from SB’s past. Dreaming now...
When does the next "Just Listed" appear?
