Limiting cruise ship visits also limits our local business
The Paperboy event at Lark looks like it will be fun!! Wish I was going to be in town for that!!
Check reviews of the Ventura location and proceed with caution. Multiple people reported getting sick after eating there as well as many unsanitary practices noted. That's a hard pass for me. What is also concerning is the fact that the owners don't care enough to respond to many of the bad reviews. https://www.yelp.com/biz/nick-the-greek-ventura?sort_by=date_desc&rr=1
Dario Pini‘s new Mission Inn on State Street near Islay Street.
I remember when they were trying to build Glen Annie Golf course. Had many hoops to jump about the endangered frogs, hence the name of the Frog Bar. I guess frogs and golfers be damned now!
Remember when the Goleta gas station’s highest and best use was gifting it to the city in 2015 ???? https://www.cityofgoleta.org/Home/Components/News/News/1437/3875?arch=1&npage=14
Does that mean Sandpiper will be closing for the redesign? If that is the case and since Ty Warner is involved it could take the balance of this decade before it reopens!
NOLETA Shaloob’s is a screaming hit on a rainy Sat afternoon. The St. Louis ribs are great.
At last, a Greek restaurant again in Santa Barbara. Am looking forward to friends enjoying a variety of treats. Welcome, Nick and his staff.
"Scraggly Neighbor Syndrome"...stealing this one.
Hello? Have you ever heard of a car before? The commute in LA for low income workers and for healthcare workers is generally more than Santa. A 35 minute commute from Ventura or 45 minute from Lompoc is not the end of the world. Maybe you should put away that horse and buggy.
I love your commentary on the Real Estate. Seriously good.
It is interesting to see the full two-headed dragon. I’ve only seen a peek from the street. Looks like the pirate house is rebranding as the dragon house.
Oh puleeze. Produce the paperwork where it says all housing built at Glen Annie is workforce priced
Sorry but can't get after a place that has offerings named after Oprah and Prince Harry. With so many other wonderful inspiring Santa Barbara residents- where's the Ridley Tree? Heck even the Palminteri would be an improvement!
Without more affordable housing options, where will the people live who serve drinks and food to said tourists? Those who clean the golf course for tourists? Or if Mr Tourist has a heart attack on vacation, where will the nurses and doctors who will save his life live??? Our town has enough activity and natural beauty for tourists - and if the ocean and mountains are not enough, then maybe golfing in Phoenix is a better fit. We need housing - for real people - not luxury condos for second homes… real affordable housing for the workers who make Santa Barbara a community.
Terrible news about Glen Annie becoming housing. Golf play is at an all time high, demand for tee times and practice facilities has never been greater. SB has already lost 3 golf courses. Ocean Meadows, Rancho San Marcos (thanks a lot Ty) and the great little / beginner course Hidden Oaks. If Glen Annie shutters and Sandpiper goes down for a multi year remodel next year, we'll be left with a single public access golf course for an area of 250k people and a steady draw of millions of tourists. Golf is a tremendous tourist draw and a great activity for people of all ages. Regardless of some uneducated people's opinions, courses are actually a benefit to the environment and wildlife and when well managed, use very little water since they take advantage of effluence. People make vacation choices based on access to activities such as golf. Without good courses, they’ll just go elsewhere.
I agree! 3 stories max! Don’t ruin Santa Barbara because the rest of CA is already being ruined by Scott Wienr / Newsom and their one size fits all approach to housing. New leadership desperatley is needed in CA
Is it good? Absolutely, and I had the reuben with pastrami. Is it Katz's or Langer's, nah. Does it feel like a real Jewish deli? It feels more like a Deli "Lite" that you find in a good airport food court or a... small public market. I think it's a great addition but you'd have to order a "Newman" with additions for over $30 to compete with the few great pastrami houses in L.A. and especially NYC. I would not say that Wexler's is to Pastrami as Third Window is to smash burgers, but IMO it seems to be the only place in town doing it correctly. My heart is still at Dutch Garden for the price and atmosphere, even though theirs is not a legitimately proper pastrami sandwich. Please, please, someone open a Brent's style, real Jewish deli that also makes their own bagels!
Any word on adding matzo ball soup to the menu?
Yes South Coast and Three Pickles are good, but they don't have pastrami like this.
Is construction finally starting at Mackenzie market? I see a lot of movement there today.

I so agree Barbara! She has put so much into the rejuvenation of the tennis center! It’s beautiful!

My very nerdy boyfriend tells me that the three-headed dragon statue is almost certainly "Godzilla's coolest enemy, King Ghidorah."
