I live in Montecito, and there are many streets (and other parts of Montecito) that are fancier than mine, which may be why I don't find it particularly offensive to point out that one part of a neighborhood is nicer than another. And the comps bear it out: while Zillow's estimates aren't necessarily reliable for every particular property, they do give a sense of the relative value of one area versus another. For example, here are screenshots for the Calle Cita area west of Hope Avenue (https://www.sitelinesb.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/west-of-Hope-Avenue.jpg) and around Canon Drive (https://www.sitelinesb.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Canon-Drive.jpg).
So wish they would have some favorites from Corazon. Public market is always super crowded and busy.
Absolutely stunning remodel (although the pool could be considered a liability for many). I did a similar remodel with addition and it took 8 months after receiving the permits to completion and I thought I had broken a land/speed record compared to the years it has taken my friends, but 4 months is truly impressive. Shows you what can be done with a coordinated effort of having the developer/designer/builder all in one.
Funk Zone “adjacent”. Doesn’t that count?😉
I hate to be that guy, but N. Calle Caesar Chaves is a good three blocks or more from the Funk Zone.
Erik- Out of curiosity where do you live? Would love to take a look at your street and give my opinion.
Not to mention most Montecito residents are VERY bitter about the way Little Alexes was pushed out.
Free People facade on State St!
Fun looking interior at Alma.
Alma has a tough job, trying to fill the shoes of the former tenant, Little Alex's (which has re-opened in the spot formerly occupied by Fresco's). Good luck.
I agree, Calle Cito looks like a really nice renovation but the price and neighborhood seems like a challenge.
Thanks for sharing your opinions, Erik. That’s a big part of why I read your newsletter.
Agreed!
Erik thanks for insulting our neighborhood, what a rude comment.
Sure any job can get done in 4 months when you hire people from LA and work 7 days a week from 6am-11pm, super respectful of the neighbors.
Broadmoor Plaza reminds me of one of Santa Barbara's most gifted public speakers and prominent community volunteers, Lee Moldaver, who passed away in 2021. His birthday was August 26th. Through a complicated will & Trust, left by his mother to 3 siblings, that's gone on so long that 2 have died, still waiting to hear if his last bequeaths will be honored by surviving youngest brother. https://www.independent.com/2021/07/31/lee-moldaver-santa-barbaras-most-ubiquitous-activist-dies/
We ran into this. Was shocking seeing cars drive around it, but the light was stuck and pretty much everyone took that route. Big safety hazard in case a train did come
With the right crew, right scheduling and right work ethic no problem. It’s all anout planning…
Good to know! Still a quick build. :)
The permit process started a year before the house was sold. Permits were issued. And depends who is tour designer/architect.
I agree! Frozen fish sticks, and very mediocre food. Over the years has gone downhill. Perfect outdoor seating, and real potential!! The key? FRESH fish & seafood(not frozen) And some new innovative salads, breakfasts and brunch!!
How the heck did Calle Cita get through design, permitting and building in 4 months?! We’ve been at it 3+ years!
2775 East Valley has some odd goings on: Listed 8/22 for $5.650 as reported and then delisted the same day. Now listed as a rental for $25,000/mo. (Was also listed for rent at the same price in late May).
This apartment monstrosity near the Mission is a result of the developer using CA's Builders Remedy. Which is a result of a city and its planning department being wholly incapable of performing their duties. The entire department and building process is a clown car of bureaucratic nincompoops. They are either corrupt, or completely incompetent and incapable of the most basic duties.
Fire them all. Every single person. And start over.
So… What are they filming at Bellosquardo this week? Way to much equipment for an event.
If people want an old house preserved in amber… buy it.
All in favor of throwing the drivers in jail and the cars in crushers?
Our council people, legal and planning/ building need to put a stop to these oversized settlement style housing projects being proposed in these Santa Barbara locations. Not appropriate!! Enough is enough!
